Position OverviewClient is seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer with active Professional Engineer (PE) licensure and the ability to independently stamp and seal engineering documents.This role supports engineering and design services for the U.S. Department of Energy Strategic Petroleum Reserve (SPR).’The selected candidate will serve as the responsible Engineer of Record for mechanical systems supporting mission-critical petroleum storage and transfer infrastructure in a highly regulated federal environment.Significant experience in industrial mechanical systems is required. Experience in Fire Protection Engineering (FPE) is highly desirable.This position requires applicant to be a U.S. citizen and have the ability to obtain a Federal Government I.D., which is required to access all DOE sites.Occasional travel to site visits to the SPR’s four storage facilities located in Texas and Louisiana several times a year. Primary ResponsibilitiesServe as Engineer of Record and stamp/seal mechanical design documents.Lead design of mechanical systems including:Pumping systemsPiping and fluid transfer systemsTank and pipeline support systemsHVAC systems for industrial facilitiesEquipment specifications and procurement packagesPerform hydraulic and mechanical calculations for petroleum and utility systems.Ensure compliance with:ASME codesNFPA standardsUFC criteriaDOE Orders and federal standardsDevelop technical specifications, design narratives, and construction documents.Coordinate with civil, structural, electrical, and process disciplines.Support value engineering efforts and internal design quality reviews.Provide construction phase support (RFIs, submittals, site visits, commissioning support).Participate in field investigations and system condition assessments.Projects are primarily delivered using a Design-Bid-Build approach within a federal contracting framework.Required QualificationsBachelor’s degree in Mechanical EngineeringActive Professional Engineer (PE) license requiredLicensed in Louisiana and Texas or able to obtain reciprocity in both states12+ years of progressive mechanical design experienceDemonstrated experience serving as Engineer of Record and stamping construction documentsStrong background in:Industrial piping systemsPump selection and hydraulic analysisPressure vessel and tank systemsHVAC systems for industrial or mission-critical facilitiesExperience supporting federal clients (DOE, USACE, VA, DOD preferred)Familiarity with ASME, NFPA, and applicable federal codesAbility to obtain and maintain required site access/security clearance Highly Preferred QualificationsFire Protection Engineering (FPE) licensure or significant FPE experienceExperience designing fire suppression systems (foam, water-based, special hazard systems)Knowledge of NFPA 13, 15, 20, 30, and related standardsExperience in petroleum, energy, or industrial processing facilitiesConstruction phase engineering support experience
