Ecologically sound restoration and revitalization projects prepare Corps members for entry into emerging green industries while galvanizing the local economy through the development of social enterprises.

About the Position:

Reporting to the Training Manager, the Green Jobs Instruction Specialist helps lead the instruction of skilled trade learning and development of Louisiana Green Corps Program participants for successful job placement in construction and storm water management careers upon graduation. This position will also assist with the recruitment of participants.

The ideal candidate will possess professional, technical, and interpersonal skills to support the mission of Louisiana Green Corps and will be skilled in creating an environment that is conducive to learning and skill development in the areas of construction and storm water management. Candidates must be comfortable working independently and alongside participants to ensure student safety, progress, and retention of skills. The successful candidate will prepare program participants with the skills necessary to establish careers in the skilled trades with a focus on green jobs.

SUMMARY OF DUTIES RESPONSIBILITIES:

INSTRUCTION AND CURRICULUM DEVELOPMENT

Assists with the delivery and planning of Green Corps’ instruction.

Provide insight and expertise for the development of lesson plans with the support of the Executive Director, Program Manager, Training Manager, and other Louisiana Green Corp staff.

Utilizes appropriate instructional and learning strategies that meet the needs of students.

Conducts ongoing assessments of student achievement through formal and informal methods.

Makes recommendations for students to seek additional assistance from counseling services provided by Louisiana Green Corps.

Assists with the evaluation of participant performance on job sites, and during program instruction.

Ensures participant safety and helps secure transportation for participants to the training.

Provides feedback that may require reporting quantitative and qualitative information regarding student performance. Maintains information to assist with report generation.

Coaches and mentors young adults throughout their participation in the program.

Utilizes positive reinforcement and collaborative practices to resolve conflicts and engage participants.

CURRICULUM AND TRAINING DEVELOPMENT

Actively seek out, develop and maintain a network of advisors to help keep the curriculum current with industry trends.

Utilizes techniques that engage program participants.

Implement accommodations for individual student learning differences as required and ensures participant safety on job sites and instruction facilities.

RECRUITMENT

Support outreach initiatives by attending job training fairs, and working with Louisiana Green Corp colleagues, community organizations, and partners to identify viable candidates for construction and storm water management training as required.

Proactively engages interested potential applicants and assists with their enrollment into the Louisiana Green Corps as required.

REQUIRED & PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

High School Diploma or Equivalent with four years of experience working in construction and carpentry and/or green infrastructure fields.

Preferred but not required: one year of experience working with youth and/or adults in an instructional environment.

OSHA 10, CPR/ First Aid certificates preferred or willingness to obtain certifications.

TECHNOLOGICAL SKILLS

Basic Microsoft operating systems, navigation, Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, Zoom, Google Docs, and the ability to support social media content production by taking photos to document and report outcomes for projects completed by program participants for newsletters, annual reports, board reports, grants, or social media accounts.

HOURS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Primarily - Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM. The Instruction Specialist is expected to work after-hours to assist students as necessary and to be present according to the course schedule for each of the four program cycles.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

The successful candidate will be able to perform job responsibilities that require mobility and lifting of light to heavy loads as required to support the instruction of the program participants. DRIVING:

Must have a valid Louisiana State Driving License with a clean driving record. This position may be required to operate a vehicle(s) transporting up to 12 participants to various locations for program purposes. Must monitor the performance condition and maintenance of cars used to transport participants. Must have reliable transportation to attend meetings and conduct business. Must accurately follow routes, maps, and directions to multiple locations promptly and exercise good judgment while driving by respectfully operating a vehicle(s) according to the State of Louisiana’s traffic laws and safety standards.

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS:

This is currently structured as a full-time (40 hrs./week), salaried, exempt position with a $50k - $58K as the starting salary range, commensurate with experience. Benefits include but not limited to: health, dental, vision insurance, life insurance, a Simple IRA 3% matching retirement plan, paid annual leave and paid holidays
