St. James Cheese Company is a full cheese shop and small restaurant. We are looking for enthusiastic, positive people to join our front of house team. We’re excited to have you grow with our company! At St. James we strive to empower and grow cheese fascinations into cheese careers.

Desired Team Qualities:

- Prior cheese knowledge and experience are not required but is a plus.

- Prior restaurant experience is not required but is a plus. Before cheese training can begin, new employees are expected to learn the menu and the specific flow of our restaurant.

- Curiosity and passion about cheese, meat, and other specialty food items is required. Cheesemongers are the bridge between small farmers and the everyday customer. We want to be able to tell their stories well.

- Open minds and open palates, are encouraged. You will be tasting a wide variety of cheeses, meats and specialty products.

- Excellent customer service and communication skills wanted. The FOH staff works to keep a calm and professional demeanor throughout the day. We are a high-volume establishment and work very hard to keep a positive mindset while working together.

- Must be flexible and potentially to work at both our Uptown and Downtown locations.

- Flexible scheduling but weekend shifts maybe required. The shops are typically closed for most major holidays however we are very busy surrounding those days so time off requests may be restricted.

- Must be self-motivated, hardworking, and team oriented.

- Creativity and an artistic eye are encouraged and will be nourished.

Job Responsibilities:

- As FOH team members, we are expected to be able to juggle many things including, but not limited to:

o Cheese Mongering! (a.k.a. cheese retail assistance)

o Taking and completing catering orders

o Navigating customer relations

o Taking in-house and phone menu orders

o Mail/shipping orders

- FOH Team is responsible for general shop and restaurant upkeep:

o Cleaning and upkeeping shop and restaurant space

o Stocking dry goods

o Refreshing cold cases

o Caring for and rotating cheese and meat stock

o Bussing tables

- This is a physical work environment. FOH team members are expected to be able to lift 40-50+ pounds and work on their feet for 7+ hours a day.

- Competitive hourly rate dependent on experience. Raises and upward mobility available based on performance. Plus, tips which range anywhere from $7-$20/hour (depending on the season) on top of your hourly rate.

- Offering paid time off after one year of employment

- Offering Educational Stipend Program. After 24 months, all employees are eligible for an educational stipend of up to $500 to expand and improve their expertise in their chosen field. After 36 months, the stipend is increased to $2000. More details available during interview process.

- Creative freedom is fostered and encouraged (specials, catering, pop-ups, operating procedures, & art!).

- Education in cheese. Many of our Cheesemongers have had the opportunity to travel to competitions, classes, and conferences to network with other cheese and restaurant industry professionals.
