Winter Property Manager - 3 months - France

About the Role: Root & Rise is a summer camp for women and nonbinary people, centering LGBTQIA+ participants and community. We secured a chteau in September and are currently in the process of furnishing, renovating, and preparing the property for our 2025 season.
We are seeking a live-in Property Manager for a 3-month contract (December–March) to support the setup and maintenance of our chteau in La Petite-Marche, France. This is a hands-on position focused on groundskeeping, property management, and sourcing and overseeing the setup of the space.
The Root & Rise Director will be on-site until December 8th and will return on January 20th. Additional live-in staff will arrive in mid-January. Conversational French is a requirement for this position. Partners or a good friend are welcome to join you. Families considered on a case by case basis. This position reports to the Operations Director.

Location: La Petite-Marche, Allier Department, France. 30 minutes from the nearest city (Montlucon) / 15 minutes from the nearest grocery.
Property: 8 bedroom chateau with 4 historic stone outbuildings on 3 hectares with fruit trees, vegetable garden, herbs, and flowers.
Main Responsibilities
Property Set Up
Handle scheduling with on-site contractors and suppliers
Manage incoming deliveries (lumber, furniture, etc)
In coordination with the Operations Director (offsite), track furniture needs, go thrifting, submit items to order as needed
Manage + set-up furniture arrivals as needed
Develop house manual
Work with 2 part time french staff
Farm & Grounds
Light property maintenance
Coordinating with the groundskeeper
Feeding birds
Team engagement:
Root &Rise has a 6 person team, and the property manager will be expected to participate in staff calls.
Skills & Qualifications
Required
Bilingual English and French.
Valid driver’s license, and can drive a manual
Ability to organize tasks and manage time well.
Respectful, inclusive attitude — must be comfortable working with people of all backgrounds and gender identities.
Preferred
Carpentry or other hands-on building skills.
Experience with construction or renovation projects.
Farming, gardening, or general land management experience.
Accommodation & Living Arrangements
Private quarters on the third floor of the chteau, furnished with a bed, side tables, and storage. Additional rooms are available if needed.
Shared facilities include two bathrooms, three showers, a kitchen, and laundry in the basement.
A shared vehicle is available for work-related duties.

This is a 3-month contract position, provided with a $2,500 stipend and living accommodation. This position is open immediately and will be posted until filled, and one flight ticket for a relocation expense will be considered. The ideal candidate will arrive before December 6th, 2025.
This temporary contract position is with Root&Rise, an American LLC, and does not sponsor a visa.
