About B&F:

Bread & Friends is a bakery and daytime restaurant on Fore Street, in the Old Port neighborhood of Portland; our mission is to foster community through delicious food that is meant to be shared. Naturally leavened bread, artisan pastry, and an elevated brunch menu form the core of the B&F experience, complemented by a craft coffee program and a small wine and beer selection.

Bread & Friends is open 7 days a week from 8am-1pm. We are currently seeking one full time hire for our pastry team

About this position:

The Bread & Friends pastry program is focused on creative Viennoiserie and American classics like pop tarts, cookies, and more. Our team is small, and you will work alongside the Head Baker on all aspects of production from start to finish. Some parts of the day will be independently handled, while other tasks will require the team to work together to complete a bigger task. We serve both our retail location on Fore St. as well as wholesale customers up and down the Southern Maine coast.

We have shifts beginning between 3-6am as well as 11am-12pm, shifts are 8.5 hours long with an unpaid 30 minute break.

All bread and pastry team members assist with wholesale delivery (company vehicle provided) and a driver’s license and clean driving record are highly preferred.

Position duties include:

Participating in every step of the croissant making process: mixing, butter blocks, laminating, sheeting, and shaping.

Accurately follow formulas to mise and mix doughs, frostings, and fillings.

Proof and bake pastries in our rack convection oven.

Decorate and finish pastries with attention to design and detail.

Collaborate with the Head Baker on new seasonal flavors and creations.

Qualifications:

1+ year professional bakery experience required, lamination experience/education is preferred but we are willing to train the right candidate!

Ability to multitask, work in a team environment, and communicate efficiently and effectively.

Ability to work efficiently and maintain a calm and friendly demeanor in a fast paced, high volume environment.

Can meet physical demands of position including pulling, pushing, carrying and lifting up to 50lbs, and standing for extended periods of time.

Valid driver’s license and clean driving record strongly preferred.
