Bar Futo, a Japanese-inspired restaurant rooted in binchotan-fired cooking in the heart of Portland’s Old Port, is looking for a new General Manager. Job Responsibilities
Answer emails, phone inquiries within a timely manner
Create the schedule
Handle payroll
Manage, interview, hire, fire, discipline, and hold team to high standards
Orient new employees and oversee training to ensure quality and make sure standards are withheld
Manage budgeted labor costs, control overtime
Reconcile cash bank
Open, work mid shift, or close the restaurant- depending on restaurant needs- and float around during service- wearing many hats
Ensure bar and alcohol service is handled according to standards and law
Ensure monthly inventories are completed appropriately
Ensure maintenance requests are handled, and service pieces and serviceware are in good working order and good shape
Ensure the restaurant is clean and opening+closing checklists are completely daily
Handle POS and other technology and program as needed
Manage and maximize covers/revenue during service
Greet and seat guests
Assist in beverage service
Responsible for proving friendly and exceptional service
Handled customer complaints and take action if necessary
Qualifications/Experience
5 years of experience in restaurants, 2 years experience in management
Sake knowledge is a plus, but not required
Must have reliable means of transportation
Ability to train and motivate a team and other managers and create a positive work environment, providing hands on leadership in service, to-go orders, and more
Excellent written and oral communication skills
Excellent organization skills and time management
Ability to build relationships and foster positive relationships with community
Ability to stand and work on feet for extended period (up to 12 hours)
Ability to reach, bend, stoop and frequently lift up to 50 lbs
