Sissle & Daughters is a soon-to-open all-day cafe, wine bar, and grocer in Portland’s Woodford’s Corner neighborhood, from the folks at The Cheese Shop of Portland. Our focus is on quality from the ingredients we source, foods we cook, and service we provide. We aim to create a positive work environment full of opportunities to learn and create meaningful connections with our colleagues and customers. Hiring for September training. Estimated opening October.

We are looking for a team of kitchen professionals who care about the craft of cooking, are passionate about great ingredients & making straightforward, delicious food. Ideal candidates will show an interest in charcuterie & whole animal butchery, show respect for the products we work with and the people who make or grow them, and most of all for the people working beside you. These roles are daytime hours of production cooking, no live fire tickets.

Primary Responsibilities:

Works with Chef to produce foods both served in the cafe/wine bar and sold in our grocery department for take-and-heat/take-and-eat.

Ensures cooks and dishwasher prep cooks are trained on menu and that daily tasks are accomplished.

Communicate need for disciplinary measures to Chef and ownership.

Take inventory and place orders accordingly.

Contribute to a positive and collaborative team environment, working effectively alongside the entire team, across departments.

Operate and maintain kitchen equipment, reporting any malfunctions for timely repairs.

Create and assist in execution of deep cleaning schedule.

Qualifications:

Highly organized and detail oriented with ability to multitask, self direct, and assess what needs to be done next.

Ability to uphold and maintain high standards of cleanliness

Value of experience shown in ability, not time spent in kitchens

Experience in ordering and inventory management

Previous experience with charcuterie or butchery a plus

Previous baking experience a plus

Ability to work well under pressure and be a calm problem-solver

Ability to stand and work for 8+ hours

Ability to lift 50+ pounds

Available to work some weekends and holidays
