Sissle & Daughters is a soon-to-open all-day cafe, wine bar, and grocer in Portland’s Woodford’s Corner neighborhood, from the folks at The Cheese Shop of Portland. Our focus is on quality from the ingredients we source, foods we cook, and service we provide. We aim to create a positive work environment full of opportunities to learn and create meaningful connections with our colleagues and customers. Hiring for early October training. At Sissle & Daughters, we are excited to be a comfortable and friendly space in which to enjoy some of the most delicious wine and food around. Our wine bartenders are the guiding voices for the customers looking for just the right class at the right time. An excitement to learn about new wines and even more, to share that knowledge and excitement is essential in this role.
Primary Responsibilities:
Provide excellent customer service–service that’s friendly, down-to-earth, accommodating and aims to cultivate regulars.
Maintain knowledge of all wines being poured by the glass and by the bottle with the aim of guiding customers towards making their selection by being informative and unpretentious.
Accurately pour beer and wine
Control loss through development of best practices and suggestive sales
Make espresso drinks when needed.
Ability to work in partnership with back bar/food service role to create seamless service experience.
Perform opening and closing duties as well as side work at the start and end of each shift as assigned.
Contribute to a positive and collaborative team environment, working effectively alongside the entire team, across departments.
Qualifications:
Professional experience with wine in some capacity is strongly desired.
Barista experience is a plus.
● A passion for giving great customer service.
● Self-motivated and driven to exceed expectations.
Strong interest in constantly learning about wine.
Organized and detail oriented.
Ability to work well under pressure.
Ability to stand and work for 8+ hours.
Available to work weekends and some holidays.
Attention to detail.
