I am seeking a live in caregiver who will take care of my 91 year old father and live with him in his five bedroom house in Friendship, Maine. My father is six feet tall and 230 pounds. His house overlooks the ocean and has a lovely view of the ocean. The caregiver will have a private bedroom and bathroom. The caregiver will need to cook and shop, clean the house, do laundry, make sure that my father is taking his medications, check his blood sugar levels for diabetes care, take his blood pressure, drive him to his doctor's appointments and other general care tasks.
My father is a non-smoker, does not drink and does not use foul language. He generally walks with a cane but he has just had hip replacement surgery. As such, he will be less mobile as he recovers from the surgery. My father does not have Alzheimer’s or dementia. He has a lift that can get him to a standing position in the event he is on the floor for any reason.
The live in caregiver will also need to help dress and bath my father. My father also has a very small hypoallergenic dog that is very sweet. Further, the Veteran’s Administration provides a part time caregiver who comes into the house for a few hours a week to help with my father’s care.
The caregiver must not smoke, use drugs, drink very much and will need to be able to drive my father’s car. The caregiver must have a valid driver’s license, have a social security number and speak and understand English. It is essential that the caregiver is able to understand how to organize and give medications and oversee my father’s diet and type 2 diabetes care. Medical training is advantageous but not required.
We will pay the caregiver $800 per week plus room and board. We will give the caregiver an IRS 1099 form at the end of the year.
