PEER SUPPORT SPECIALIST

Qualifications/Requirements: Self-identified mental health consumer. High school diploma or equivalent preferred. Ability to work with diverse populations. Willingness to complete State of Maine Certified Intentional Peer Support training or have CIPSS certification. Willingness to actively participate in agency sponsored trainings related to this position. Excellent communication skills and ability to engage meaningfully with program participants. Excellent record of attendance and punctuality. Ability to engage in strengths-based interactions and maintain respect for all program participants. Ability to perform productively and responsibly in situations with minimal supervision. Ability to move towards positive goals and outcomes. Understanding of and belief in the peer support model. Must have valid drivers’ license and reliable personal vehicle. May not have received services from NOE for two years prior to beginning work.

A Peer Support Specialist uses their own lived experience of recovery to help others. They provide individualized support, guidance, and advocacy to individuals navigating mental health or substance use challenges. This involves a range of duties including, but not limited to, advocacy, resource referral, crisis support, and helping clients develop recovery goals.
