Position Title: Transfer Station Attendant - Laborer
Location: Kennebunk, Maine
Transfer Station/Landfill Hourly Rate: $23.00-$25.00
36-40 Hours per Week: Tuesday-Saturday 8:00 AM - 3:00 PM
This is a skilled, manual, and administrative position. The Transfer Station Attendant performs varied and responsible duties of a complex nature, requiring independent judgment and initiative, following prescribed procedures.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

· Keeps transfer station clean, safe, and operational.
· Responsible for bookkeeping, record keeping and administrative tasks assigned.
· Provides information to residents pertaining to the operation of the transfer station.
· Directs incoming vehicles to proper dumping areas, checks for appropriate dump stickers.
· Explains Transfer Station procedures to general public; monitors cargo to prohibit disposal of prohibited materials.
· Supervises separation of trash by users of the site.
· Ensures the safety of the workers and the public by keeping walkways and roads sanded and clear of debris; keeping surrounding grounds maintained and removing all loose trash on grounds at end of each shift.
· Calls the contracted waste hauler when dumpsters need to be picked up.
· Monitors all dumping for compliance with state and local laws and regulations.
· Performs all other related duties as assigned.
· Requirements of Work: Ability to maintain Transfer Station in accordance with rules and regulations. Knowledge of hazards and applicable safety rules and regulations in equipment operation. Ability to detect need for mechanical servicing of equipment. Ability to understand and carry out oral instructions and to work independently in the performance of routine duties. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with the public and other Town employees. Ability to maintain records. Training and Experience Required:
· Sufficient educational background to perform job-related duties.
· Necessary Special Requirements:
· Physical strength and agility sufficient for performing the duties of the job.
