MA Builders is looking for a skilled lead carpenter to join our amazing team! This is a full-time, M-F carpentry position that offers benefits such as a monthly health stipend, vision & dental insurance, PTO, sick days, 9 paid holidays, Simple IRA with a 3% company match, annual tool allowance and continuing education reimbursement.
The Lead Carpenter is the point person on the jobsite, managing and directing tasks of all crew members and subcontractors on site to ensure efficiency and productivity. The role of the Lead Carpenter is to provide on-site support to ensure that the project is executed in line with the agreed schedule and budget. The Lead Carpenter needs to have the carpentry skills listed in the Carpenter job description, along with the managerial skills to actively manage and supervise all jobsite crew members, including subcontractors. Responsibilities:
Provides leadership to ensure that the crew is working together efficiently toward defined project goals
Prepares the jobsite for subcontractors
Requests support from the Production Manager/Site Supervisor as needed to answer design intent and documentation questions
Takes initiative to solve project problems and maintain high standards; involves the Production Manager/Site Supervisor for additional support & documentation as needed
Works with the Production Manager/Site Supervisor to keep the jobsite stocked with required materials with three or fewer supplier trips per week
Works with Production Manager/Site Supervisor to make sure special orders are installed properly
Checks site deliveries for accuracy, completeness & damages
Communicates with Production Manager/Site Supervisor when the need for a change order arises. Provides PM/Site Super with necessary information to write the change order.
Maintains personal, jobsite, and crew safety at all times
Ensures that the jobsite is clean at the end of the day and well-organized during the day
Oversees required building inspections
Sets a positive example for the jobsite team by actively supporting everyone on the crew, regardless of skill level, and never openly criticizing other members of the project team, and speaks to team members with respect at all times
Preferred Carpentry skills
Operation of all required tools safely and efficiently
Setup, usage, and safety monitoring of all ladder, scaffold, and harness equipment
Accurate sill layout
Layout and execution of level, plumb, and square wall framing, floor framing, and all but the most complicated roof framing
Application of sheathing and weather-resistive barriers (WRB)
Application of various types of roofing underlayment
Roofing activities include valleys, edge and ridge cap, and prep for gutters
Window, skylight, and exterior door installation and flashing procedures
Air-sealing methods
Execution of all phases of exterior siding and trim
Deck lay-out and installation
Strapping and blocking installation
Cutting and installation of rough and finished stairs alongside a Lead Carpenter
Execution of all phases of interior trim installation
Hanging kitchen cabinets, including managing layout, leveling, troubleshooting, and room discrepancies
Creation of basic to mid-level material lists for framing, sheathing, and trim
Ability to provide sequential instructions to Apprentices within company protocol
Job Requirements:
At least 7 years of carpentry/building experience
Must have a valid drivers license & reliable transportation
High school diploma or equivalent
Physical Requirements/Considerations:
May be required to lift up to 50lbs (infrequently)
Must be able to remain in a stationary position 50% of the time
Frequently ascends/descends ladders
The person in this position needs to frequently move about job sites
Occasionally works in outdoor weather conditions
