Possessing a broad background in manufacturing operations within the sugar industry, the Operations Trainer teaches production line/area employees with the aid of standardized training documentation the fundamental skills needed to perform their jobs. The Operations Trainer works closely with the Operations Training Coordinator to develop the technical and operational training documentation used to train employees. The Operations Trainer is responsible for evaluating employee skills against training materials and expectations and coordinating training sign-off by the production management team. Operations Trainer will also evaluate employees on a set frequency for skill proficiency and provide remedial coaching as needed. This role spends significant time engaged with our production floor operators/supervisors and operators to assure standardization of training and identification of improvement opportunities. This role sits within the Continuous Improvement team and is responsible for using Lean Manufacturing tools to drive sustained improvements. POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES
Partnering with Team Managers, Supervisors, and Operations Training Coordinator to deliver technical training programs around Packaging, Process, and/or Maintenance.
Work hand in hand with operators to assure understanding of documented operational processes and procedures
Evaluate trainees for competency against training documentation and checklists
Provide supplementary training and coaching when needed to assure documented procedures and processes are understood by trainee
Contribute technical knowledge, insights and recommendations to aid in the creation of training documentation in multiple formats including written SOPs, PowerPoint with photos and annotations, and video with annotations that achieve a consistent delivery of information.
Deliver and promote Train the Trainer training courses and on-going coaching support to operators
Act as a resource for Continuous Improvement projects particularly when standardization in process is required for sustained improvements
Audit, spot check, and rectify compliance gaps on standard work instructions and training material where identified
In partnership with Continuous Improvement and Learning & Development, ensure consistency of application of training across the business and maintain alignment with corporate learning strategy.
Understand and support Operational goals particularly when training gaps are identified
Assist with the implementation of CAPEX projects in relation to timetables of training, familiarization and learning curves. This could require the role to travel to the equipment manufacturer for training and the capture of training materials.
Adhere to the Training plan for the department in service of driving departmental training KPIs and increasing skill set of operators
Promote common Lean Manufacturing tools such as 5S and Short Interval Control
Drive Continuous Improvement in all Technical Learning & Development processes
Understand, use, and support end-users of the company’s Learning Management System (SuccessFactors)
WORK EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
Suitable relevant industry experience essential, particularly in a sugar refining, packaging or manufacturing maintenance role
5-8 years of professional experience.
Manufacturing Supervisory/Leadership experience significantly preferred
Working knowledge of common training method
EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS
Experience delivering operational training in a refining/food manufacturing environment required
High School diploma or GED required
SIx Sigma background preferred
KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS
Relevant industry experience
Understanding of Lean Manufacturing principles
Good understanding of relevant Health & Safety legislation and regulations
Detailed experience or relevant work processes and safe use of equipment
Strong relationship building and excellent written/verbal communication skills
Strong organizational skills with the ability to work on own initiative, to tight deadlines in a demanding environment
Proficient in Microsoft Office, Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook
