FUNCTIONS:
Serves as a positive role model and communicates positive values to community youth.
Counsels’ school-age youth on the importance of education and good citizenship.
Assist youth in cultivating positive alternatives to anti-social and criminal lifestyles.
Assist in maintaining order, safety, and a constructive learning environment in assigned school buildings.
Effectively builds relationships with youth, parent/guardians of youth, faculty and NVYS staff to facilitate youth’s efforts to progress positively.
Identify youth needing special counseling and other related services.
Attend special meetings to discuss the program goals and objectives.
Conducts home visits of youth as scheduled.
Assesses and develops goals to reasonably progress youth in assigned caseload.
Complete written reports daily
Perform other duties as assigned by the Program Coordinator.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to walk, talk, and hear. The employee is frequently required to walk; sit and use hands to finger, handle, or feel. The employee is occasionally required to stand and reach with hands and arms. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 lbs. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distant vision and the ability to adjust focus.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
High School Diploma or GED and 2 years experience.
Must have 2 years expertise in the following areas:
Ability to manage multiple priorities under changing deadlines.
Ability to work well with others.
Ability to make decisions and recommendations.
Strong communications skills and able to speak in front of groups.
Well organized and detail-oriented.
Basic understanding of urban community issues and challenges faced by youth and has not only overcome them but can inspire others to persevere.
Proven ability to work independently.
Basic typing abilities, Basic computer literacy (Word, Excel, e-mail).
