About the Role:
Join the dedicated team at the VA Maryland Health Care System as a Certified Yoga Instructor for the Gerofit Program. This role is pivotal in empowering older Veterans, many of whom have multiple chronic health conditions, to improve their physical health and overall well-being through tailored yoga sessions. Your expertise will directly support the Veterans Health Administration’s Whole Health initiative, aiming to enhance life quality and health outcomes for our nation’s heroes.
Key Responsibilities:
Develop and Deliver Yoga Classes: Design and deliver weekly yoga sessions specifically tailored for older Veterans enrolled in the Gerofit Program, considering their unique health conditions and physical capabilities.
Collaborate with Healthcare Professionals: Work closely with the Gerofit Program Manager to ensure that the classes meet the program's goals and are safe and beneficial for the participants.
Monitor and Report: Provide immediate feedback to healthcare staff regarding any observed mobility or flexibility concerns among participants to ensure their safety and well-being.
Qualifications:
Certification: Must hold a current, unrestricted certification as a Yoga Instructor. Proof of certification required prior to the start date and must be maintained throughout the contract period.
Experience: Prior experience in instructing yoga for older adults or special populations is highly preferred. Experience working within a healthcare setting or with veterans is a plus.
Skills: Strong understanding of yoga modifications for individuals with chronic health conditions, excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and the ability to work collaboratively with healthcare professionals.
