POSITION SUMMARY: The National Institutes of Health is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Scientist to join the Laboratory of Host Immunity and Microbiome (LHIM). The selected candidate will independently design, execute, and oversee complex research experiments in immunology, microbiology, molecular biology, cell biology, and biochemistry. The Scientist will work extensively with experimental mouse and disease models, perform advanced data analyses, and collaborate with internal and external researchers while maintaining detailed experimental records. Effective communication in a team-oriented environment is essential to drive forward the laboratory’s research objectives. TASKS. The contractor shall:

Oversee, plan, and execute research experiments matching the laboratory’s research program independently.

Design and perform various complex experimental procedures involving immunology, microbiology, molecular biology, cell biology, and biochemistry.

Utilize techniques including immunological assays, western blots, DNA/RNA purification, real-time PCR, gene synthesis, mutagenesis, cloning, bacterial transformation, plaque cloning, maintenance of bacterial stocks, and tissue/cell culture.

Work with experimental mouse and disease models in BSL2 conditions and adapt to BSL3 conditions if necessary.

Perform next-generation sequencing, metabolomic data analysis, bio-informatic, and statistical analyses.

Collect, organize, and maintain detailed records of experimental data and samples.

Analyze, evaluate, and interpret research data, communicate findings in meetings, and write manuscripts for publication.

Assist with developing hypotheses, facility/laboratory requirements, animal study protocols, and space management.

Assist other scientists and researchers with experiments and communicate effectively within a team-oriented environment.

Collaborate with scientists and researchers within the institute and external institutions.

REQUIREMENTS. The contractor must have:

PhD in Biology or a related discipline.

Minimum of eight (8) years of postdoctoral experience.

Research experience in immunology and microbiome fields.

Experience with experimental mouse models, including germ-free mouse models.

Effective communication skills for team collaboration.
