Senior Specialist, Communications (Environment)City/Country Location Details Bethesda, MarylandEmployment StatusJob Type CorporateJobJob Title : Senior Specialist, Communications (Environment)Department : Development Innovations – Environment SectorReports to: Senior Director, Water and Energy PracticeWork Location: Bethesda, Maryland or approved r emote work location in states where DAI is registeredPosition OverviewThe Environment and Energy team provides technical leadership and implementation support to international field-based USAID programs in the areas of climate change, clean energy, green/circular economy, water and natural resources management, climate finance, ocean plastics, and just transition with flagship USAID projects in countries such as Colombia, Haiti, Honduras, Indonesia, Kenya, Lebanon, Nepal, Pakistan, Peru, Philippines, Vietnam, and the West Africa region.The Senior Specialist, Communicationswill support communication and outreach activities on DAI projects, promote DAI’s energy, climate, natural resource management, and water-related projects and initiatives, and provide technical writing and integration support to proposals. The goal of the role is to develop effective communications strategies and products for USAID projects, enhance the Environment and Energy’s team public profile, support internal communication efforts, and produce winning proposals. TheSenior Specialist,Communications willcollaborateclosely with technical specialists in the Environment and Energy Team, DAI’s corporate communications team, and field-based project teams to perform a wide range of activities, including developing communication strategies and plans, drafting messaging, writing articles, preparing outreach products and tools for target audiences, fact sheets, reports, presentations, content for listserv messages, web pages and social media accounts.The position requirespreviousexperience in outreach and communication. Proposal experience and strong knowledge of the energy industry, climate change, environmental and or/water policy are a plus.This is afull-time position that requires the ability to work in the United States without sponsorship.This position requires the ability to travel domestically and internationally as needed.Abilityto work from the Bethesda officeis preferred.This role will close on Tuesday, July 30th.ResponsibilitiesStrategic Communications

Develop, in consultation with Environment and Energy sector leadership, strategic communication strategies and plans.

Responsible for monitoring and reporting on the execution of these communication strategies and plans.

Conduct market research and leverage DAI’s strengths and opportunities in the Environment and Energy sector to help distinguish DAI in the market.

Work with DAI’s Environment and Energy technical experts to conceptualize,writeand/or edit thought leadership pieces such as articles,abstractsand blogs.

Draft content and social campaign development that adhere to USAID or DAI’s branding and style guidelines and uses a consistent tone, style,and language to communicate to the target audiences.

Work with DAI’s Corporate Communications Team toensure social media posts, blog articles, etc.are posted on DAI’s corporate website and other relevant sites.

Conduct strategic communications monitoring and measurement, including the use of surveys, focus groups and social media analytics. Analyze these metrics to suggest improvements in communications and outreach tactics.

Design, write and edit a wide array of communication tools and products including marketing PPTs, flyers, infographics, data visualization, social media applications.

Scope and execute strategic communication tasks for digital media, video, multimedia, audio,and graphics.

Support Environment and Energy sector knowledge management initiatives.

Represent the Environment and Energy Sector on broader DAI communications and knowledge management efforts, such as the external DAI website revamp and internal SharePoint revamp.

Project and Proposal Support

Provideshort termtechnical assistance (STTA) to DAI’s project teams in the areas of communications and marketing, as required and approved by the client.

Support Environment and Energy sector proposals asrequired, particularly in serving as a technical writer or integrator.

Support broader business development efforts, such as conducting research,identifying,and executing messaging campaigns tied to DAI’s growth in the sector, and supporting conference and other event design and attendance.

Additionalresponsibilities asdeemednecessary.Qualifications & SkillsMinimum Requirements:

P6:Minimum of5years ofrelevant professionalexperienceand acollege degree. Equivalent combinations of education and experience will be considered.

Demonstratedexperience designing and executing content creationandsocialmediacampaign development,using platforms such asLinkedIn, X,FacebookandInstagramandMicrosoft 365 productssuchMicrosoft SwayandCoPilot.

Demonstrated experience usinganalytics products and servicessuch asGoogleAnalytics (GA4).

Demonstrated experience developing, executing,andmonitoringstrategic communication strategies and workplans.

Excellent written and oral communication skills, with the ability to communicate clearly and professionally with internal and externalclients, and tailor communication style to diverse audiences.

Selected candidates will be asked to provideup to5examples of written communication productsthattheyhavecreated.

Able to build andmaintainexcellentworking relationships with staff at all levels of the organization and external clients from diverse backgrounds.

Demonstrated emotional intelligence with empathy and strong interpersonal skills.

Excellent attention to detail, and analytical skills.

Self-directed with strong organizational skills and the ability to prioritize multiple tasks/competing deadlines simultaneously.

Ability to speak and write in English at a fluent/native level ofproficiency.

Professionalproficiencyin MS Office suite.

Able to work as part of a decentralized team with minimal oversight.

Able to handle confidential and/or sensitive information with discretion.

Able and willing to travel to any country where DAI currentlyoperates,or may wish tooperate,barring times when DAI Global Security hasdeemedtravel unsafe.

Able and willing to adjust work schedule, if needed, to support teamslocatedin different time zones/countries.

Authorized to workin the United States without employer sponsorship.

Based in one of the following U.S. locations where DAI is registered: District of Columbia, California, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Texas, Virginia, Washington.

Preferred, but not required :

Professionalor native/fluent level ofproficiencyin a secondlanguage (Spanish, French, Russian, or Arabicpreferred).

Priorexperience working in the environment and energy sectors.

Prior experience working in international development, particularly withUSAID.

Prior experience working on proposals for USAID funded projects.

Compensation & Benefits:For employees working the United States, the full-time equivalent annual base salary for this position is expected to be between $94,780to $111,506. Salary for part-time employees will be prorated based on actual hours worked. Actual offers will be based on several factors including, but not limited to, qualifications, relevant education, experience, skills, seniority, performance, and business or organizational needs.Eligible U.S. based employees, will be able to enroll in medical, dental and vision insurance, plus a 401(k)-retirement plan with a company match. Additionally, employees will be eligible for company-paid annual leave (vacation & holidays), sick leave, parental leave; as well as short- and long-term disability coverage.
