Chesapeake Building Components designs, builds, and supplies wood components. At the root of every strong, well-built component is a great designer.
Are you detail-oriented? Have you always been good with numbers and math? Are you a quick learner?
If you answered yes to some or all of these, our design team may be a great fit for you!
We're looking for a trainee to become one of our next floor/roof truss or wall panel designers for single family homes, town-homes, and large commercial buildings.
What's a truss? What's a panel?
Roof trusses are the triangular wood structures that form a roof on a home or building. Floor trusses are the joists that hold up the floors. Wall panels are pre-fabricated wood walls.
We produce and deliver these to our customers, so they don't have to assemble them onsite piece-by-piece.
A typical day as a designer would include:
- Using customer plans (blueprints) and component engineering software to design our components
- Closely examining construction plans and drawings
- Comparing designs, takeoffs (an estimate of what materials a job will require), purchase orders, and invoices to ensure consistency and catch discrepancies
Other "nice to have" skills:
- Project management
- Microsoft office
- General office skills
We look forward to receiving your application! With your resume, please submit a statement about why you'd be a good fit for the job. We'll follow up with you if we'd like you to come in and fill out our official application.
