We are a commercial construction general contractor serving our customers for the last 10 years. AVC is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Project Accountant to oversee and facilitate the accounting progress of projects, investigating variances, approving expenses/invoices, and reporting on projects to management. They must thoroughly understand the financial components of a project and proactively work with project managers to monitor and analyze project performance against budget. This role will report directly to the Accounting department head. The duties of this role require an understanding of job cost accounting, a personality that enjoys details, and an analytical outlook to material, equipment, and subcontractors.

The role will be based at the corporate office in Lovettsville, Virginia. Little to no travel requirements.

EXPECTATIONS OF PROJECT ACCOUNTANT
Essential Functions
Manage all accounting related functions for assigned projects.
Assist project teams with any questions or needs related to the project’s accounting.
Manage invoices, payments, and compliance requirements for assigned projects.
Understand compliance requirements for assigned projects.
AP Invoicing
Tie invoices to purchase orders, including verification sufficient funds remain on PO to cover invoices.
Process vendor and subcontractor invoices accurately and within assigned timeline.
Work with vendors to enforce and maintain AVC’s vendor invoicing requirements.
Purchase Requisitions/Orders
Work closely with purchasing agent to ensure purchase requisitions are accurate.
Input purchase requisitions to create purchase orders (job specific and overhead, and POs for change orders).
Provide purchase order information back to Operations.
Track in coordination with project manager, all commitments, purchases, and outstanding project expenses.
Project Accounting
Create and maintain accounting project files, including contracts and change orders, and ensuring compliance with the contract.
Input project budgets and maintain budgets, including change orders based on data provided from Operations.
Conduct investigations into project costs and create ad-hoc reporting.
Respond to requests for more detail from customers.
Review account totals related to project assets and expenses.
Investigate project variances and submit variance reports to management.
Work closely with project manager and accounting staff.
Reporting
Report to management regarding the remaining budget available for projects, account totals related to revenue and expenses, and project profitability to management.
Report to management regarding the write-off of any project-related billings that cannot be billed to or collected from customers, investigate all project expenses not billed to customers, investigate project variance and submit variance reports to management.
Prepare and submit reports related to projects.
Inventory
Related responsibilities to be determined.
Other responsibilities
Support operationd team with collection efforts.
Assist foremen/supervisor, as needed (generally related to quick turn-around for POs).
Additional responsibilities, as needed.
EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS
High school diploma or equivalent
Some college education preferred but not required
WORK EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
Not less than 3 years of similar work experience in the project accounting sector of the construction industry.
References should be provided.
