Description We are offering a long-term contract opportunity for a Payroll Specialist in Fulton, Maryland. This role is in the finance industry, where you will be responsible for handling all payroll related functions of an organization. The successful candidate will be a detail-oriented person with significant knowledge of payroll administration, including state and federal regulations.Responsibilities: Handle the processing of new hires and updates to existing employees in the payroll system. Accurately process payroll entries received from employees and divisions. Respond to telephone and email inquiries from employees and physicians regarding payroll matters. Review payroll reports for accuracy and ensure proper payroll processing and reporting of information. Prepare and sort completed payroll reports, maintaining confidentiality of sensitive information. Create and deliver ad-hoc reports requested by various parties within the organization. Review and reconcile federal, state withholding and unemployment tax information and disbursements. Coordinate tax updates, including amendments with external providers. Research and resolve questions or concerns with various taxing authorities. Create new tax withholding and/or sui account numbers, and complete quarterly reports. Review and reconcile quarterly and annual tax reports. Create and modify payroll processing instructions, and review company setup structure for possible areas of consolidation or modification. Complete and return Verification of Employment documentation to requestor. Update payroll records by entering, reviewing and approving changes as appropriate. Process and pay employees by directing the production and issuance of paychecks or electronic transfers to bank accounts. Compile summaries of earnings, taxes, deductions, leave, disability, and nontaxable wages for reports. Comply with federal, state, and local legal requirements by studying existing and new legislation; enforcing adherence to requirements; advising management on needed actions. Maintain employee confidence and protect payroll operations by keeping information confidential. Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; participating in professional societies. Oversee internal payroll and accounting audits on a semi-annual basis.
