WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW The Principal Scientist will plan, conduct, and review research projects and recommend changes to current ways of working to support operational efficiency. Conduct research or developmental lab studies of moderate scope.
Plan projects, review progress, and recommend changes in procedures and projects.
Evaluate and o rganize research results for scientific/project staff to review or interpret.
Operate a variety of scientific equipment to conduct project activities.
Liaise with scientists or project leaders concerning project activities, observations, and safety procedures.
Participate in intellectual property evaluations and development of patent applications, as required.
Individual contributor that works under limited supervision. Apply subject matter knowledge. Capacity to understand specific needs or requirements to apply skills/knowledge.The salary range for this position is : 150,000 -$170,000 Note that American Red Cross salaries are aligned to the specific geographic location in which the work is primarily performed. Other factors that may be used to determine your actual salary may include your specific skills, how many years of experience you have and comparison to other employees already in this role. WHAT YOU NEED TO SUCCEED Education: Bachelor's degree in Biology, Chemistry, Medical Technology or related discipline required.Experience: Minimum 3 years of related experience in a research laboratory or equivalent combination of education and related experience required.Management Experience: N/ASkills & Abilities: Ability to work on a team. Complete understanding and wide application of principles, theories and concepts and general knowledge of other related disciplines.Travel: Some travel may be required.Combination of candidate's education and general experience satisfies requirements so long as the total years equate to description's minimum education and general experience years combined (Management experience cannot be substituted). WHAT WILL GIVE YOU THE COMPETITIVE EDGE Di rect experience in Blood research - whole blood, platelets & red cells Physical Requirements Depending on work assignment, may require ordinary ambulatory skills sufficient to visit other locations; or the ability to stand, walk and manipulate (lift, carry, move) light to medium weights of up to 20 pounds. Requires good hand-eye coordination, arm, hand and finger dexterity, including ability to grasp, and visual acuity to use a keyboard, operate equipment and read technical information.
