You will be engaged in the analysis of very large datasets to estimate the incidence and prevalence of disease and injury in military populations.The Epidemiologist (Integrated Biosurveillance) position supports Alert and Response Operations (ARO) within the Integrated Biosurveillance (IB) section of the AFHSB. ARO monitors multiple biosurveillance data sources to detect and report on all-hazard events (e.g. emerging and re-emerging infectious disease and environmental threats) that are relevant to the health of military personnel. ARO provides comprehensive, near-real time health surveillance, DoD public health threat assessment and situational awareness in support of force health protection.HOW YOU WILL MAKE AN IMPACT :
Assisting in supporting an effective AFHSB biosurveillance program and operational mission.
Effectively liaise with AFHSD internally and with external USG and non-USG partner leading to the successful establishment of collaborations and/or partnerships.
Assisting in meeting information requirements of Combatant Commands (CCMDs) and other military and civilian programs and projects.
Coordinating the gathering and assembly of data related to specific deliverables including open source data from public health agencies including CDC, WHO, foreign countries Ministries of Health and military medical data including reportable medical event data and medical encounter data.
Supporting the production of deliverables such as weekly structured health surveillance updates and surveillance summaries
Maintaining expertise and up to date knowledge of infectious disease threats and environmental threats to military members
WHAT YOU’LL NEED TO SUCCEED:
Education : Master Degree in epidemiology, public health, or related discipline
Required Experience : 2 + years of related experience in biosurveillance and/or public health
Required Technical Skills : Ability to gather and assemble data from multiple sources and perform analyses and interpretation of these data to produce information products such as surveillance summaries
Security Clearance Level : NACLC (T3) clearable
Required Skills and Abilities: Excellent communication and organizational skills
Preferred Skills: Infectious disease experience; Secret level clearance with ability to obtain Top Secret; Experience with military health surveillance
Location: Hybrid position - work 1-3 days a week in Silver Spring, MD
