Hillis-Carnes Engineering Associates is seeking an experienced CWI / Structural Steel Inspector to join our Waldorf, MD team. We are a fast-growing, industry-leading engineering and inspection firm with 20 locations and over 30 years of proven success. This position involves inspecting and testing structural steel during erection on commercial building sites. You’ll work directly with contractors, technicians, and project managers and document your findings per accepted engineering and construction standards.
Responsibilities:
-Inspect and test structural steel during erection
-Perform welding and bolting inspections (CWI/ICC)
-Conduct field observations and construction inspections
-Perform NDT testing (PT/MT/UT preferred)
-Document daily reports accurately
-Communicate with site contractors and project managers
-Interpret construction drawings and specifications
Requirements:
-2+ years construction or structural steel erection experience
-AWS CWI or ICC Welding certification
-ICC High-Strength Bolting certification
-NDT Level II in PT/MT/UT preferred
-Valid driver’s license + reliable vehicle for site work
-Ability to lift 60–80 lbs
-Able to work nights/weekends as needed
-Knowledge of AWS, AISC, and other construction trades is a plus
