Maryland Treatment Centers is currently hiring for an Environmental Safety Officer at our Sykesville location!Job Summary: The function of the Environmental Safety Manager is to ensure a safe, secure and well-maintained environment for patients, staff, and visitors. The environment consists of four buildings, equipment and the immediately adjacent outside grounds. Clinical programs include residential, mental health, special education and prevention services. Our programs are accredited by the Joint Commission (JCAHO).Must be fluent in Microsoft Office and other administrative tasks to be considered.Required Skill Sets and Responsibilities: Attends to all facets of facility safety needs, including staff training, conducting and recording fire drills, conducting safety committee meetings.

Is on- call 24/7 and available to respond to evening and weekend on-call emergencies

Disseminates information to department heads and others regarding toxic and hazardous waste and materials, emergency preparedness and other safety information.

Interprets and enforces the life safety code for health care facilities.

Assists department heads and administrator in enforcing safety regulations and codes.

Measures and evaluates effectiveness of safety program, using established goals.

Acts as a reporting member of the Safety Committee on findings, recommendations, actions and monitoring at least every other month. Supports Safety Committee meetings by collecting and formulating relevant information in such a way that decision-making is facilitated.

Conducts building and grounds hazard surveillance surveys on a periodic and regular basis to detect code violations, hazards and incorrect work practices and procedures.

Develops, reviews, and participates in safety training for hospital staff. Presents at new employee orientation. Presents in-services to various departments on request; maintains various resource media for training. Maintains administrative control of records of fire drills.

Directs the OSHA required hazard communication program through: Maintaining a comprehensive file of Material Safety Data Sheets, Providing assistance to directors in conducting the annual chemical inventory, Providing training in the use of and need for Material Safety Data Sheets.

Participates in the planning by organization leaders for space, equipment, and resources needed to safely and effectively support the services provided.

Carries out plans to create and manage the facility’s environment of care. Develops and uses information, collection and evaluation systems to continuously measure, asses, and improve the environment of care.

Ensures that each patient has appropriate uniforms and that uniforms and other facility property are returned at discharge. Maintains necessary documentation.

Manages patient-related supplies, including the Merit Store to include maintaining inventory and MSDS forms and ensuring a regular process of replenishment that is consistent with clinical and fiscal guidelines.

Manages incoming and out-going patient mail in a manner consistent with clinical and safety standards.

Serves as the facility Fleet Manager with responsibility for all elements of the Fleet Management Program.

Manages housekeeping needs and staff.

Has food service manager certification and manages dietary department.

Has basic maintenance skills and knowledge such as patching a hole in the wall.

Has knowledge and experience as it relates to Environment of Care regulations.

Has experience and knowledge working in a acute psychiatric facility.

Is able to organize and prioritize multiple responsibilities so all deadlines are met.
