In addition, the University is part of the Five Colleges (including Amherst College, Hampshire College, Mount Holyoke College, and Smith College), which adds to the intellectual energy of the region.Job SummaryThe Postdoctoral Research Associate will carry out research in theoretical particle physics related to models beyond the Standard Model and their signatures at current and future colliders and astrophysical experiments. In particular, this includes the study of heavy and light new particles, dark matter, axion models, collider physics, flavour physics and astroparticle physics. The successful applicant will collaborate with Ass. Prof. Thamm and other members of the Amherst Center for Fundamental Interactions.Essential Functions
Carry out research in theoretical particle physics on topics related to beyond-the-Standard-Model phenomenology, dark matter, axion models, collider, flavour and astroparticle physics.
Collaborate and interact with other members of the Amherst Center for Fundamental Interactions.
Prepare and submit research publications.
Present work at conferences and seminars.
Participate in weekly group meetings and ACFI seminars.
Other Functions
Work collaboratively and effectively to promote teamwork, diversity, equality and inclusiveness.
Work in partnership with colleagues within the CNS community and across the campus to support the Dean’s strategic priorities.
Perform other duties as assigned in support of the mission and goals of the College of Natural Sciences.
Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Education, Experience, Certifications, Licensure)
Ph.D. in theoretical particle physics.
Preferred Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Education, Experience, Certifications, Licensure)
A working knowledge of quantum field theory, cosmology and general relativity.
Expertise in theoretical calculations related to beyond-the-Standard-Model phenomenology, dark matter, axion models, collider, flavour and astroparticle physics.
Expertise in appropriate computational tools such as C, python and/or Mathematica.
Work Schedule
Monday - Friday, 9:00am - 5:00pm.
Salary Information
$52,024/annual.
