Salem Kids Tours offers one-hour outdoor walking tours to children ages 5-14 and their families.
We provide walking tours of Salem. As a tour guide for Salem you will be responsible for leading up to 20 guests on one-hour tours to deliver spooky ghost stories and fascinating facts. Children must be accompanied by parent(s) or responsible adult(s), so you will not be responsible for behavior, etc., the parents will be supervising.
Right now, we are looking for Tour Guide Teachers for our 7pm-8pm GHOST TOUR starting in June of 2025.
Most needed: 7pm-8pm evening ghost tours. I will guarantee you one tour per week, many more tours if you want! Other tour times: 9:15am, 10:45am, 1pm, 4:50pm. The 7pm tour is new, and I'm primarily looking for someone who can do that time slot at least one or two times per week, plus additional tour times if you wish. You must be available for Friday or Saturday evenings, or both.
Leading one-hour, outdoor tours following an established route.
Engaging kids and adjusting your presentation in response to the group in front of you.
Managing unexpected distractions (construction, street performers, traffic issues, weather, other tours, etc.) and adjusting the route and/or presentation in response to such distractions
Keeping your group safe and organized as you navigate sidewalk and street crossings, reminding parents to keep their children close, checking in the group to make sure everyone has a ticket.
Presenting stories with passion, humor, enthusiasm, and flair!
You will need to obtain Tour Guide certification with the City of Salem to lead a tour in Salem. I will help you and advise you on obtaining your certificate in Salem, and I will pick up the fee.

Requirements:
You must be a teacher, retired teacher, or graduate student (preferably in History, Humanities, or Education)
We’ll consider undergraduates with relevant experience, working with children, tourism, tutoring, etc.
We'll consider applicants with a relevant skill set.
Passionate about history, and happy to study and learn about Salem.
Able to present material in an enthusiastic and engaging manner that will sustain children’s attention
Able to walk at least two miles easily, climb stairs, climb a small hill, navigate over curbs, bricks and cobblestones
Excellent leadership and teaching skills.
Must have a smart phone to manage check-in.
Ideally, you live near Salem, so you can pick up last-minute tours. I have a parking space on my property if you need it, but then it's a 20 min. walk to the tour site.
There are opportunities to lead field trips during the school year as well. TBD.
$60-$75/hour plus tips. You keep all of your tips, which can be in cash or Venmo In general, I get between $20 and $100 per tour in tips, so please factor that in when considering this opportunity.
