I'm looking for an experienced manager to run a coffee/retail shop in Southern VT ski town (roughly 2.5 hours from Boston by car). I'm posting this in Boston because high-volume experience in an urban business is critical for success.
This is a full time position. Compensation is negotiable but the general shape will be:
- Salary: $55-75k (based on experience)
- Quarterly bonus based on profitability
- Relocation and first three months rent paid
- 2 weeks paid vacation in year one
- Potential to earn significant (up to 10%) OWNERSHIP of the business over time.
The business is open 7 days per week, year round (does not close for slow seasons). We sell drip coffee, cold brew, and breakfast sandwiches prepared on site. Retail includes beer (canned & growler), seasonal groceries, shelf-stable foods, and some non-food items (dog toys, apparel, etc) which are all locally produced.
Customers can place orders online to pick up either in-store or via a drive-thru window.
We're open to the public 7am - 5pm, hours may expand as the business grows.
Management responsibilities include:
Hiring, scheduling, and training both retail and food-service staff.
Setting and ensuring proper safety and cleanliness standards
Maintaining supplier ordering and relationships
Receiving and stocking inventory
Working in-store 50 hours per week
Frequent collaboration with other owners on inventory, menu, and staffing strategies.
Requirements:
Must be willing to relocate to Southern VT and have your own vehicle.
Must have at least 3 years experience with P&L and management responsibilities at a high volume cafe (Flour, Tatte, or similar).
Must be able and willing to cover both front & back of house responsibilities.
Must have an "owners" mentality since we'll be making you one.
Must have comfort with basic modern business technology (Toast, spreadsheets, etc)
Nice to haves:
Retail and e-commerce experience
A basic understanding of cafe/retail finances
This is a one-of-a-kind opportunity for a top-tier manager to become a partner in a well-supported business without having to put up their own . If that sounds like you, and you'd like to trade working in the city for a beautiful small town in VT, I can't wait to hear from you!
Please respond with a resume and short cover letter. Don't worry about formality, but I'd like to hear in a paragraph or two what makes you the best candidate for this position and what an "ownership mentality" means to you.
Thanks!
