A&J King Artisan Bakers is looking for a seasonal part-time pastry team member to join our staff. There is the possibility of becoming a permanent part of the team but currently we are looking for a staff member to join ASAP through the holidays.
If you have a passion for bakery and food production, can work independently as well as in a team, and want to work with high quality ingredients in a bakery that has been fortunate to be able serve the community for almost twenty years we would love to hear from you. This position is considered a good starter position for someone with perhaps a little less experience, but individuals must be able to learn quickly and work at the required pace after initial training.
About The Bakery:
We are an award-winning artisan bakery specializing in medium-to-high volume, high-quality breakfast pastries such as hand rolled croissants, muffins, scones, cookies, tarts/pies and rustic and classic seasonal desserts, as well as hearth baked breads such as sourdoughs, baguettes, ciabatta, and whole grains.
All of our products are made fresh daily from scratch ingredients. We source locally and regionally whenever possible. This includes primarily dairy, produce, and grains. We also offer espresso and lunch options in our café and participate in farmers markets.
We also proudly produce and distribute baked goods to a wide variety of customers through our wholesale program providing breads and pastries to top restaurants, cafes, and shops on the North Shore, Boston, and Southern New Hampshire. Winner of Best of Boston in 2009 and 2012 as well as Best of North Shore every year since 2008.
We want to work with passionate hard-working people who can help us meet the needs of both our customer bases. Any team member who joins our business needs to be able to be to thrive in a team environment and want to hone their skills.
GENERAL SCHEDULING:
We are looking for someone to work 3 days a week for 8 hours a shift. Looking for someone who is flexible to work an extra shift every now and again based on our needs.
24 hours a week.
Fridays and Saturdays are a must and the third day is yet to be determined.
Exact shift times still to be determined, but most likely day shifts.
We are looking for an individual to help out with prep work and the general stocking of many of our baked goods. More specifics listed below.
Subbing for co-workers is also expected to help cover vacations or illness.
Working extra hours during holiday periods is also expected.
Closed on Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Day.
Ideally, this position begins training ASAP
Shift Duties: This list is not exhaustive.
-Mixing quick breads and simple toppings and fillings.
-Scone production: Mixing, sheeting, cutting
-Cookie production: Mixing, scooping, sheeting
-General food preparation using a variety of sweet and savory ingredients. Examples could include jam production, curds, pastry creams, etc
-Other food preparation duties as assigned based on the seasonality of our menu.
- Being ready to learn new recipes based on seasonal offerings
Expected Equipment Usage:
- Use of multiple sheeters.
-Use of mixers from counter top kitchen aid on up to 80 qt Hobart Mixers.
-Use of rack ovens and convection ovens.
APPLICANT MUST:
Be reliable and regularly attend shifts. Employees must consistently attend shifts and understand the concrete nature of the work we do here. Attendance is important.
Have some basic hands on professional cooking/food preparation experience. Not just home cooking experience. This is non-negotiable
Be able to work in a fast paced environment with a sense of urgency and organization to complete all baking tasks on schedule.
Be able to multitask, prioritize, work independently.
Be a team player.
Previous bakery experience is highly encouraged, but not necessarily disqualifying if professional cooking is your only prerequisite.
NOTE: Home baking is amazing and wonderful but is NOT considered food service experience.
Be excited and passionate about food.
Be able to carry 50lbs, stand on their feet 8-10 hours in a potentially hot environment. Have endurance. Being a baker is a very physical job!
Have hands and wrists capable of repetitive motions.
Have a desire to work quickly and have endurance.
Be a friendly team player. No jerks.
Be able to take constructive criticism and work to improve their craft.
COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS:
To start this position will range from $20.00/hour-$21/hour and go higher based on experience. This minimum hourly wage per hour is calculated on a combination of a base hourly wage and administration wages that all employees benefit from in their hourly pay every pay check.
