Role:

Under the direction of the Pharmacy Operations Manager, the 340B Compliance Technician is responsible for assisting with auditing the functions and tasks related to 340B regulatory requirements for in-house and contract pharmacies. The 340B Compliance Technician will review pharmacy claims to ensure program integrity of the 340B Program in accordance with HHSI’s 340B Policies and Procedures.

Our home base for this position is preferred in our Dorchester location(s), but open to Hyannis as well.

Responsibilities:

Pharmacy Self-Audits

Under the direct supervision of the 340B Program Manager, conducts audits in a timely manner.

Creates and reviews all in-house pharmacy dispensing reports to ensure all patients receiving 340B medications are 340B eligible.

Verifies the validity of referrals within the EMR for those 340B eligible prescriptions written by outside prescribers.

Reviews ACO and MCO prescriptions to ensure there are no instances of diversion.

Assists on a regular basis with the 340B Program Manager when findings occur and works with the Pharmacists in Charge (PIC’s) to develop processes to ensure compliance.

Reviews all contract pharmacy dispensing reports to ensure all patients receiving 340B medications are 340B eligible.Validates all contract pharmacy prescriptions. originating from HHSI’s EMR, validates prescriptions were sent on date indicated on the dispensing report and were sent to the pharmacy indicated in the EMR.

Assists with compiling a quarterly report on all findings (in-house and contract pharmacy) of the 340B pharmacy program at HHSI.

Maintains auditable records in the event of an internal or external audit.

Policy and Procedure Review and Development

Under the direction of the 340B Program Manager, the 340B Compliance Technician works with the PIC’s to review and improve processes in workflow with regards to 340B integrity.

Assists in developing and growing the 340B compliance audit program.

340B Program Oversight

Maintains knowledge of policy changes that effect 340B including HRSA, OPA and Medicaid

Responsible for conducting all internal 340B audits performed at HHSI (in-house and contract pharmacy)

Maintains a current state of “audit readiness”.

In conjunction with the Program Manager, assesses opportunities for cost savings for the 340B program.

Reporting

Generates 340B compliance reports from QS1.

Learns to create data exports from QS1.

Maintains auditable, retrievable records with appropriate documentation.

Responsible for preparing and submitting the HDAP (HIV) Drug Assistance Program report to the Community Research Initiative on a quarterly basis.

Inventory

Reviews Negative Revenue Report and seeks opportunities for less expensive brand name and generic medications resulting in cost savings.

Creates monthly cycle count reports for each in-house pharmacy.

Reviews process for inventory returns to streamline credits and charges for outdated and damaged medications and updates process to an electronic format whenever possible.

Works with each pharmacy in preparation for biannual inventories including returning excessive pharmacy inventory to the wholesaler, organizing shelves, pre-inventory cycle counts of high cost medications and review of medication database to ensure each medication has a viable drug type.

Become proficient in McKesson Connect inventory functionality.

Trains to assist in biannual pharmacy inventories, ability to travel to other Harbor Pharmacy sites in a timely manner as needed.

Pharmacy Technician Coverage

Performs Pharmacy Technician duties at the in-house pharmacies (see Pharmacy Technician job description) if needed.

Must be able to cover Pharmacy Technician shifts as needed, in the event of an open shift, provided shift coverage is approved by Pharmacy Operations Manager or Director of Pharmacy.

Requirements:

Registered Pharmacy Technician Required, Nationally Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) required, Advanced Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT-Adv) preferred.

Associate’s or Bachelor’s Degree in related field preferred

Must be at least 18 years old

Proficient in Office 365 including Word, Excel, Outlook and Teams, Intermediate knowledge of Excel highly desired, experience with Electronic Medical Record (EMR) EPIC preferred

Proficient in QS1

Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Basic knowledge and understanding of 340B.

Proven organization skills including attention to details and prompt follow up.

Ability to communicate in an effective manner with both patients and while collaborating with health center staff and providers.
