Fashion Design Assistant (hourly, part time)

Work location: Boston, MA and/or MIT Campus
The MIT Future Heritage Lab is seeking a talented and skilled Fashion Design Assistant to support the prototyping of wearable art projects. The ideal candidate will have experience in tailoring, design development, and prototyping of sculptural garments using various materials such as felt, stretch fabrics, and recycled clothing. This is an hourly paid temporary position.
Responsibilities:
- Assist in the design and prototyping of unique wearable art pieces
- Work with a variety of materials, including felt, stretch fabrics, and recycled clothing
- Utilize home and industrial sewing machines to construct garments
- Collaborate with the design team to bring creative ideas to life
- Maintain a clean and organized workspace
Requirements:
- Experience in tailoring and design development of clothing
- Strong prototyping skills and attention to detail
- Proficiency in sewing with both home and industrial machines
- Extensive knowledge of fabrics and their properties
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Flexibility to work between 10-25 hours per week
- Must be able to work in Boston area and/or at the MIT campus in Cambridge
