GENERAL SUMMARY OF POSITION

The system navigator will provide subject matter expertise to the family housing workers, offering leadership and guidance to housing team as they assist families in overcoming housing barriers and addressing individual needs. This position will serve as the primary resource for handling complex situation related to housing, including interactions with housing authorizes, property management, landlords, and other housing-related entities. The system navigator will also offer recommendations and strategies for supporting families throughout the process of securing affordable, permanent housing as they transition from emergency shelter.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Aid Family Housing Advocate in identifying available services for the immediate needs of families with housing needs in emergency shelter.

Assist families with all aspects of admission to the program including but not limited to:

o Reviewing house rules and site inventory

o Determining immediate emergency needs

o Completion of all necessary program documents

o Provide training and lead Family Housing Advocate and Support in fulfilling their essential job functions during housing search.

Help navigate eligibility requirements, especially for families with particularly complex needs, with a focus on making connections to permanent services that can be maintained post-placement.

Participate in EOHLC -facilitated trainings and knowledge-sharing on navigating

services across the Commonwealth

Provide comprehensive advocacy, that will support the ultimate goal of stable housing, including but not limited to the following:

o Assist in obtaining and using benefits

o Provide information and referral to appropriate community resources

o Provide information, referrals, and coordination of childcare or educational needs

o Develop community linkages with CoC, landlords, and other state and nonprofit entities to ensure effective connections to services

When requested, assist the Program Director with training and orientation of other

program staff, volunteers, or interns.

Relate to family Housing Advocates in a supportive manner to overcome barriers.

Assist Family Housing Advocate with all aspects of finding safe and affordable housing, as needed.

Provide Family Housing advocates with leads and applications to housing opportunities.

Perform other related tasks as assigned.

COMPETENCIES AND QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor’s Degree preferred. High School Diploma/GED required. Two years’ experience working in housing service. Preferred candidate will have experience working with a housing authority or property management, with a solid understanding of housing regulations, and the processes for securing affordable housing. Independent living program or case management. Candidates must possess strong communication and organizational skills. Must possess a personal vehicle and a valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record required. Mileage reimbursement is provided.
