General Summary:

The Grant Writer/Manager is responsible for writing grants and executing, tracking and reporting a robust and strategic Grant Development Plan. The Grant Writer/Manager operates under the supervision of the Director of Advocacy and Development. The Grants Writer/Manager will assist the organization’s fund development goals and work with Development, Finance, and Operations to establish effective project communication and ensure that The Open Door continues to “alleviate the impact of hunger in our community.”

Major responsibilities include researching and identifying grant prospects; writing grants; creating and tracking requirements, deliverables, and deadlines to ensure they are completed on time. Although the Grant Writer/Manager must work independently to fulfill the responsibilities of the job, he/she must also work collaboratively, in a teamwork spirit, with all members of The Open Door.

In addition, the Grants Writer/Manager must have a passion for the work of The Open Door and the populations served. Must have a keen interest in continuous learning to fully understand the work that we seek grants for, and a passion for creating opportunities for people in need

Duties include, but are not limited to:

Grant writing

Create and manage robust grant writing schedule to meet annual goals.

Work with team members to develop grant proposals greater than $5,000.

Write and submit grant proposals as scheduled/assigned to meet deadlines.

Track and meet grant reporting deadlines in a timely fashion.

Identify new grant opportunities and cultivate relationships with grant sources.

Maintain and update boilerplate. Refresh language and data.

Implement a long-term strategic Grant Funding Plan to meet revenue goals. Collaborate with the organization’s leadership to create the plan that will retain, gain and grow revenue. Provide reports as requested and maintain grant information in SalesForce. (Donor letters and database are maintained by current staff.)

May be asked to assist Director of Advocacy and Development in developing annual appeals, newsletters, donor engagement and communication campaigns.

Assist Director of Advocacy and Development with a fund development plan for each fiscal year.

May be asked to assist Director of Advocacy and Development in Special Events and fundraising
