ASSISTANT PROJECT ESTIMATOR - CONSTRUCTION

General Summary: The Assistant Project Estimator (APE) is in a unique position to assist the Senior Estimator. The APE may at times be the link between the Senior Estimator and prospective subcontractors and vendors . There is exposure to all functions of estimating including budgeting and collecting pricing for materials and labor for bidding purposes. Working through the Senior Estimator, the APE is involved in implementing tools that assist with coordinating structured bids for prospective projects. Working in unison with the Financial and Administrative Departments, the APE assists the Project Management Team in collect data for changes in scope of existing projects.
Responsibilities
The APE will assume the responsibility of ensuring the Senior Estimator is accurately and fully informed of the status of all project bids.
The major activities and responsibilities of the APE shall include:
Gain familiarity with plans, specifications, addendums and scope of each project.
Assist the Estimating Department in retrieving subcontractor and vendor bids, as required.
Work with the Project Manager to manage financial aspects of projects to protect the company’s interest and simultaneously maintain good relationships with the customers.
Manage project documentation such as (Submittals, RFIs, Schedules, Change Orders, Drawings and Specifications.
Assist in procurement of materials and equipment rentals.
Collaborate with Senior Estimator to establish goals and objectives.
Assist Project Management Team in collecting quotes or providing budgets for changes in scope of existing projects .
Manage project performance data and formulate progress reports as requested by the Senior Estimator and organization executives.
Assist the accounting department as needed.
Education
BS degree in Construction Management, Business Administration, or related field or equivalent work experience.
Work Experience One (1) to Three (3) years project experience in construction environments (commercial preferred).
Knowledge, skills, and abilities
Knowledge of construction practices and an understanding of general business practices. Maintain the ability to work in a high production environment. Demonstrate the ability of decision-making and leadership skills. Provide excellent communication and organizational skills. Efficient, and alert to detail. Microsoft Office experience required. Sage 300 experience a plus.
