HVAC Technician Job Description

Reliable Transportation required, ability to travel to job site locations through the North Shore is required

An HVAC (Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning) Technician is responsible for the installation, maintenance, and repair of HVAC systems in residential, commercial, or industrial settings. The technician ensures that heating and cooling systems are functioning efficiently and effectively, providing comfort and air quality for the occupants of the building.

Key Responsibilities:

Installation of HVAC Systems:

Install new HVAC systems, including furnaces, air conditioners, heat pumps, and ventilation systems.

Ensure proper placement, alignment, and connection of HVAC components according to building codes and manufacturer instructions.

Maintenance and Inspection:

Perform routine maintenance tasks such as cleaning, replacing filters, lubricating parts, and inspecting HVAC systems.

Conduct regular inspections to identify issues, wear and tear, and potential system malfunctions.

Ensure systems are operating at optimal performance levels.

Repair and Troubleshooting:

Diagnose and troubleshoot HVAC system issues, including electrical, mechanical, or refrigerant problems.

Repair or replace malfunctioning parts, such as compressors, motors, thermostats, and ductwork.

System Upgrades and Retrofits:

Advise customers on system upgrades, energy-efficient options, and retrofitting older systems to meet current codes and energy standards.

Customer Service:

Communicate effectively with clients regarding the scope of work, estimated costs, and timelines for installation or repairs.

Provide recommendations for improving system efficiency, indoor air quality, and comfort.

Safety Compliance:

Ensure all HVAC installations, repairs, and maintenance tasks are performed in compliance with safety standards and local regulations.

Maintain proper handling and disposal procedures for refrigerants and hazardous materials.

Documentation:

Maintain accurate records of work performed, including service logs, parts replaced, and system performance.

Complete reports on system inspections, maintenance, and repairs as required.

Emergency Response:

Provide emergency services, such as emergency repairs or system restarts, during off-hours as needed.

Skills and Qualifications:

High school diploma or equivalent; technical certification or associate degree in HVAC or a related field preferred.

Certification by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) for refrigerant handling is required.

Strong knowledge of HVAC systems, including electrical and mechanical components.

Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical manuals.

Proficiency in the use of HVAC tools and diagnostic equipment.

Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.

Good communication skills and the ability to work independently or as part of a team.
