Line Cook:
Established owner operated, intimate, fine dining restaurant. Restaurant El Quenepo is located on the beautiful island of Vieques, Puerto Rico (consistently voted in the top ten of islands of the world for the best beaches). Our 55-seat restaurant is known for creativity, bold flavors, using local ingredients and cooking each dish from scratch. We are seeking a creative and highly motivated line cook to join our talented kitchen team and assist us in the war against mediocre cuisine.
Job description
In this position, your principal goal will be to prepare high-quality meals, which meet the chef’s exact specifications and our recipes. You will be responsible for setting up the prep station, stocking inventory and maintaining sanitation standards. The ideal candidate will possess excellent communication and multi-tasking skills. Ultimately you will play a key role in contributing to our customer satisfaction and restaurant growth.
Responsibilities:
Set up and stocking stations with all necessary supplies.
Prepare food for service (e.g., chopping vegetables, butchering meat or preparing sauces)
Cook menu items in cooperation with the rest of the kitchen staff.
Answer, report and follow Chef or Sous Chef’s instructions.
Clean up station and take care of leftover food.
Stock inventory appropriately
Ensure that food comes out simultaneously, in high quality and in a timely fashion.
Maintain a positive and professional approach with coworkers and customers.
Requirement and Skill:
Proven cooking experience, including experience as a Line Chef, Restaurant Cook or Prep Cook.
In-depth knowledge of various cooking methods, ingredients, equipment and procedures.
Accuracy and speed in executing assigned tasks.
Familiar with industry’s best practices.
Must be flexible, detail oriented and have a passion for creating incredible food. An upbeat positive vibe is a must.
Excellent communication and organizational skills.
Aptitude for multi-tasking and learning new skills.
Must be able to work cooperatively and efficiently in a team.
Must have at least 3-5 years kitchen experience and/or a true desire to learn, strong work ethic, have a anything, anywhere, anytime attitude.
Must be available to work weekends and holidays.
Physical endurance to work long shifts in a hot, hectic environment; stand, walk, bend, use had appliances; and lift heavy items for extended periods.
Must be available to work November through April
Position is available year-round, but a commitment to work Thanksgiving week through Easter week (high season) is a must.
