Fishing/Lobster Charter Boat First Mate

Seeking an energetic, professional person with a positive attitude and a passion for being on the water, fishing, and creating memorable experiences for Cape Cod visitors. This job is for a charter boat fishing mate, working on a 29-foot Webber Cove Commercial Lobster Boat (D-TAILS) with a licensed USCG Captain and up to six passengers.
Job type/commitment: Seasonal, part-time – three to four days a week, including weekends; up to12 hours daily. Based on previous years, a part-time mate can expect to work between 50 to75 trips, approximately 600 to 900 hours
Compensation: Hourly wage based on experience, plus tips.
Scope of job:
The season runs from mid-June through Labor Day. Most days include two, five-hour charters, out in the morning with one set of guests, returning to the dock and heading out again with second set of guests;
Daily start time is typically between 6 a.m. Morning tasks include boat and gear preparation;
Daily end time is typically between 6 to 7 p.m. Afternoon tasks include fileting fish, cleaning boat and stowing gear;
Non-scheduled days-off occur when trips are canceled due to weather conditions at the discretion of the captain;
You will be enrolled in a USCG mandatory random drug testing program paid by Billingsgate Charters; you must pass pre-employment drug screen and background check.
Requirements/ideal candidate:
Friendly, polite, customer-pleasing demeanor;
Highly motivated, able to take direction and respect authority;
Skilled at rigging tackle, landing and filleting fish – primarily striped bass and bluefish;
Previous experience as a mate or a deckhand on fishing charters or lobster boats
Background in environmental studies, marine science, resort and hospitality, or public service;
Must have your own transportation to report to work.
