The Alander is a 12-room boutique lodge in the foothills of the Berkshires in Copake, NY. Its attached contemporary American restaurant, North Star, consists of a 40-seat dining room & bar, 40-seat outdoor dining space, and an upcoming 40-seat cocktail lounge/event space. Sadly, our current Exec Chef is relocating toward the end of this month and we're beginning our search for his eventual replacement to help lead our F&B operations, including the upcoming lounge/event programming. Job Overview:
We are seeking a talented and experienced Executive Chef and culinary partner to join our team and lead all Food and Beverage programming. The Executive Chef will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of kitchen operations, menu planning, food production, and ensuring the highest quality of culinary offerings. The ideal candidate will have a passion for food, strong leadership and entrepreneurial skills, and a proven track record in the food industry.
Duties:
- Supervise and lead kitchen staff in daily operations
- Plan and create innovative menus that meet quality standards
- Oversee food preparation, cooking, and presentation
- Ensure compliance with food safety regulations and quality control
- Manage inventory and control food and labor costs
- Collaborate with management to develop culinary strategies
- Train and develop kitchen staff on best practices
- Maintain a clean and organized kitchen environment
Experience:
- Proven experience as an Executive Chef or similar role
- Strong background in catering, food service management, and food production
- In-depth knowledge of menu planning, food management, and culinary techniques
- Familiarity with industry best practices and trends
- Excellent leadership and communication skills
- Ability to work well under pressure in a fast-paced environment
