The bookkeeper reports directly to the president and is primarily responsible for developing and maintaining an up-to-date, reliable accounting system that supports project-by-project analysis and assessment as well as whole-business analysis. S/he ensures that all legally-mandated reports are properly prepared and submitted and all costs and revenues are accurately entered, maintained, and reported on a daily basis.
Responsibilities
Set up and maintain an efficient system for organizing all financial records
Sets up and maintains an accounts configuration that provides timely, reliable project-by-project and overall business analysis and assessment. Works to continually to develop, enhance, and maintain the system. Maintains accurate and reliable data and records on clients, projects, vendors, inventory, and supplies. Sets/maintains a consistent daily schedule, e.g., enters financial data, performs bank reconciliations, pays bills, and sends invoices on an agreed schedule.
Demonstrates that ensuring client satisfaction drives every decision and action
Greets each person who calls or visits the office promptly and warmly and offers assistance. Focuses on finding solutions to problems that may arise, rather than complaining or passing the problem on to others.
Stays knowledgeable about Sovereign Builders, Inc.’ products/services and either handles calls and other inquiries and/or refers them appropriately. Seeks client feedback, encourages referrals and instills confidence in Sovereign Builders, Inc. and their employees. Helps document and follow through on clients’ comments, complaints and compliments.
Supports auditors and tax accountants efforts to ensure the accuracy of company financial records
Works with accountants/auditors to prepare accounts for tax filings and other agreed reports and detailed information on time and accurately. Prepares scheduled and ad hoc business reports and project analysis on time (or upon request) and accurately.
Other
Works closely with other staff and supervisors to ensure that during working hours telephones are covered and clients are greeted promptly and warmly. Attends meetings and participates in training as requested; helps with special projects as directed. Maintains cordial working relationships with co-workers; cooperates fully with supervisor; works professionally, effectively & efficiently. Communicates clearly and effectively with clients, vendors, co-workers, supervisors and others.

Work Conditions
This is a full time position in a growing company with a fast-paced office environment located in a scenic, rural area. The bookkeeper must be maintain excellent attendance and be very reliable. Starting salary is dependent on skills, knowledge, and capabilities. There are opportunities for professional advancement as the company grows.
Additional Qualifications
Excellent analytical, bookkeeping, data entry, and record keeping skills
Excellent technical grasp of accounting rules; keeps up-to-date on changes to rules.
Two to three years’ bookkeeping experience in fast-paced office environment working with multiple projects, handling accounts, working with computer data entry systems
Four year college degree in accounting or related field
Experience working in construction and rental (property and equipment) strongly preferred
Able to lift 25 pounds without assistance and to work for a full day sitting, standing and walking
Able to communicate well by telephone and in person
Significant previous experience may offset requirement for a 4-year college degree
