Job Summary:

As a Telecommunications/Fiber Optic Technician, you will be responsible for installing, maintaining, and repairing fiber optic, wireless, video, and networking equipment and systems. This role involves:

Splicing and terminating fiber optic and CAT6 cables,

Installing fiber optic cables on telephone poles, through manhole and underground facilities, and inside of buildings

Programming and installing WiFi, microwave, and networking equipment

Installing outdoor traffic monitoring video equipment.

The ideal candidate will have a technical background, good problem-solving skills, and the ability to work independently or as part of a team.

Key Responsibilities:

Fiber Splicing and Termination:

o Perform fusion and mechanical splicing of fiber optic cables.

o Terminate fiber optic cables using appropriate tools and techniques.

o Ensure splicing and termination work meets industry standards and specifications.

Cable Installation and Maintenance:

o Install fiber optic cables and associated equipment.

o Install and terminate CAT6 cables and associated equipment

o Conduct routine maintenance and troubleshooting on fiber optic networks.

o Replace or repair faulty fiber optic cables and components as needed.

Equipment Installation and Configuration:

o Install, configure, and test telecommunications equipment, including phones, routers, switches, network infrastructure, and traffic monitoring video equipment.

o Set up and configure network connections and troubleshoot connectivity issues.

o Ensure all installations meet company and industry standards.

Maintenance and Repair:

o Perform routine maintenance on telecommunications systems to ensure optimal performance.

o Diagnose and repair faults in equipment and wiring.

o Use optical test equipment to measure and analyze network performance, including OTDR, power meters, and light sources.

o Document test results, splicing records, and maintenance activities.

o Respond to service calls and provide technical support to resolve issues promptly. Diagnose errors or technical problems and work with support engineering to resolve issues onsite.

Documentation and Reporting:

o Maintain accurate records of installations, repairs, and service calls.

o Prepare and submit reports on system performance, issues, and resolutions.

Customer Interaction:

o Provide exceptional customer service by communicating clearly and professionally with clients.

o Offer technical advice and guidance to customers as needed.

o Provide feedback to management and account management team for potential upsell opportunities.

Compliance and Safety:

o Adhere to safety protocols and procedures to ensure a safe working environment.

o Comply with industry regulations and company policies regarding telecommunications standards.

o Operate company vehicle in a safe manner.

o Follow all company’s filed procedures and protocols.

Qualifications:

Education:

o High school diploma or equivalent; technical training or certification in fiber optics preferred.

Experience:

o Hands-on experience with various telecommunications, fiber optics, and networking equipment and systems.

Skills:

o Some technical knowledge of telecommunications systems, including fiber optics, VoIP, data networks, and video installation.

o Clean driving record

o Some experience with building design and in building cable installation

o Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.

o Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks effectively.

o Ability to work flexible shifts and to adapt to changing work schedules, includingparticipating in on call rotation.

o Familiarity with mobile tools and applications, especially SalesForce.com and Microsoft Office

o Strong communication and interpersonal skills, both verbal and written.

Physical Requirements:

Ability to lift and carry equipment up to 100 lbs.

Capability to work in various environments, including confined spaces and at heights.

Capability to work in various weather conditions

Work Environment:

Field work including:

o Underground manhole conduit facilities

o Roof tops

o Various customer buildings and locations

o Central Offices and data rooms

o Aerial lifts
