Carpenter
Experience/Education: A high school diploma or equivalent is required. High school courses in woodworking, drafting and other vocations are considered useful.
Our carpenters specialize in high-end home construction and renovation.
Job requirements:
Valid drivers license
Reliable vehicle
Cell phone (use for work communication and time sheets)
Basic hand tools, including cordless screw gun, tool belt, hand tools to fill tool belt, hard hat, safety glasses, ear protection
As part of a single job, you will do all aspects of home building from excavation to installing final pieces of trim:
operate equipment such as forklifts and basket lifts
basic concrete forming
layout, framing and sheathing
frame interior walls
build stairs
insulation
drywall
interior trim
crown molding, doors, and cabinets
Install structures and fixtures, such as windows and molding
Help erect, level, and install building framework with the aid of rigging hardware lifting equipment and cranes
In addition, carpenters may tile floors and lay wood floors.
Fully trained carpenters can easily switch from new-home building to remodeling.

Lead Carpenter
INTENT: The lead carpenter is the on-site manager for construction projects. His or her performance is extremely important to the success of this company. The lead carpenter is the representative to both the client and the community at large. The lead carpenter is completely responsible for the successful completion of the job, which includes maintaining a clean job site, being on time, on budget, and maintaining a high level of quality work. In addition to being an excellent framing and finish carpenter, he or she should exhibit good judgement, high ethical standards, good oral and written communication skills, and strong leadership abilities. The responsibility of the lead carpenter is to profitably and efficiently produce projects using these carpentry and management skills.
MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES
Job-site supervision, protection, and cleanliness
Have working knowledge of drawings for all projects you are assigned
Carpentry labor
Supervise and set up schedule for subcontractors
Set up schedule for inspections
Material takeoffs and material orders
Maintenance of clients CoConstruct account, including daily joblog
Provide client satisfaction and communication
SPECIFIC DUTIES- the positions activities include, but are not limited to, the following:
Participate in all aspects of project, from preconstruction conference to completing final punchlist
Present yourself and Eric Zahn Builders in a professional manner at all times.
-Wear approved, clean, well-kept clothing. -Ensure company and client satisfaction through professional appearance, expert workmanship and polite communication.
Acquire and understand CoConstruct app (time tracking program)
Accurately sign in and out on CoConstruct, adding notes about what was accomplished each time you sign out.
Understand all job paperwork, computer programs, and apps: plans, specifications, change orders, email, CoConstruct, etc.
Develop and maintain project schedule. On a daily basis, inform the project manager of the progress of the project, including any client concerns, problems, delays, etc.
Track the progress and profitability of the projects under your supervision and report to the project manager.
Perform carpentry labor on the job.
Assign work to the carpenters or helpers on the job, expediting their performance and generally supervising them. Educate and train carpenters and laborers when necessary. Set clear goals for each worker on site; give clear instructions and confirm that they have been followed. Inform project manager of progress and problems.
Coordinate all subcontractors, in consultation with the project manager, work out layout problems, and ensure proper performance. Ensure that they get timely inspections on their work.
Monitor the work performed by subcontractors on a daily basis (schedule and progress), to ensure compliance with Eric Zahn Builders, LLC standards related to quality of work, quantity of work, safety, and job-site behavior. Report any failure to comply with standards to the project manager immediately.
Anticipate ongoing needed materials, supplies, and drawings at least 24 hours in advance. Coordinate materials ordering and delivery with efficiency and accuracy: ensure timely delivery, check all job tickets to ensure proper delivery of all items, and coordinate and track returns.
Maintain an operational inventory of necessary tools, safety equipment, equipment and vehicles needed to perform specific activities assigned by the project manager.
Have knowledge of labor costs and control throughout the project.
Maintain a clean work site to meet our high standards for neatness and cleanliness, and to ensure safety and efficiency: dust protection, control mud, clean job sites daily, store and haul away debris.
Protect all of the customers property.
Be able to lift and safely use all tools and materials necessary in the construction trade.
Be able to lift a minimum of 50 pounds up a ladder to a second-story roof on a continuous basis.
Be able to work productively at all required working heights.
Order and monitor dumpster exchanges and final pickup. Keep track of shared dumpster costs with other job sites. Recycle as much as economically possible.
Set up and maintain job-site safety procedures for clients and workers. Proper safety equipment must be used when appropriate.
Know all shut-off locations for all alarms, electrical, gas, water, security, sprinkler systems, etc.
Walk through job site with project manager and client before insulation and drywall are installed to make sure all rough-in has been completed and is properly placed. Compare to plans and contract specs as an additional verification. (Client must sign pre-drywall checklist.)
We want to accommodate our clients and their wishes but if they want extra work done or to make any changes, please refer them to the project manager or to the salesperson. Dont agree to anything without getting approval, and dont ever do work without a change order from the client.
The goal is for a zero punch-list job - long punchlists rob our profits.
At the end of the job, leave the job site neat and clean, removing all tools, garbage cans, and jobsite sign.
HOURS: Work days are 8 hours per day (40 hours per week) from 7:00am to 3:30pm Monday to Friday. There is one paid 15-minute break period from 9:30am to 9:45am and one unpaid 30-minute lunch break from 12:00-12:30pm provided daily.
SKILLS AND TOOLS REQUIRED
Trade school preferred but not required
A high school diploma or equivalent is required
5 years of carpentry experience
Drivers license, reliable vehicle and cell phone
Complete expanded inventory of hand and basic cordless tools (a list can be provided)
Ability to read blueprints, lay out project from foundation up, and follow contract
Knowledge of basic building code requirements
Knowledge of basic mechanical requirements
Ability to perform material takeoffs
Ability to direct and manage others
Excellent communication skills
Construction Supervisor License (and fulfill required continuing education credits to maintain CSL)
Other skills: mathematics, building code requirements, and safety and first-aid practices
WAGES: $27/hour and up
