Role Overview
We are seeking a hands-on Technical Design Engineer to design custom shipping cases and precision-fit foam inserts for high-value, sensitive equipment. This role supports Aerospace, Medical, and Industrial customers and requires strong mechanical design skills, materials knowledge, and close collaboration with sales and manufacturing.
The ideal candidate is practical, detail-oriented, and comfortable owning a design from concept through production.
Key Responsibilities
Engineering & Design
Design custom shipping cases (hard cases, ATA-style, custom enclosures)
Design foam inserts (PE, PU, cross-linked, anti-static, laminated constructions)
Create 2D and 3D CAD models, assemblies, and production drawings
Develop cut files for CNC routers, waterjet, or die-cut foam processes
Ensure designs meet shock, vibration, and environmental protection requirements
Optimize designs for manufacturability, durability, and cost
Technical Support
Review customer drawings, equipment specs, and protection requirements
Support sales with technical input, drawings, and design concepts
Participate in customer design reviews and technical calls
Troubleshoot design or fit issues during prototyping and production
Manufacturing & Quality
Work closely with shop floor personnel to ensure design intent is met
Specify materials, densities, adhesives, and finishes
Support first-article builds and revisions
Maintain design documentation and revision control
Required Qualifications
Associate or Bachelor’s degree in:
Mechanical Engineering
Manufacturing Engineering
Industrial Engineering
Or equivalent practical experience
Technical Skills
Proficiency in CAD software (SolidWorks strongly preferred; )
Experience with:
Sheet metal or enclosure design
Foam types, densities, and fabrication methods
Ability to read and create technical drawings
Understanding of CNC manufacturing constraints
