Archer Acquisitions’ Construction arm, Fortress Home Improvement is seeking a trainee foreman to help manage a growing construction team.
Fortress Home Improvements is a construction company specializing in interior remodels of apartments, helping transform rental properties from a neglected state to a place most renters would be proud to call home. We work hand in glove with a growing property management company, so we have a constant pipeline of renovation projects. Occasionally, we also branch out to work with a campground management company to do creative projects such as building “Glampsites” with decks, patios, custom tents, or remodeling arcades or other recreational facilities.
In the last two years, we have renovated over 40 apartments, 2 arcades, 2 recreational facilities, expanded electrical services for over 50 campsites, created custom patios and fire pits, rehabbed old docks and bridges, and generally executed a wide variety of exciting projects.
We are looking to bring on a foreman-in-training to help manage our growing team. We have one full-time crew on payroll, another subcontractor crew with whom we work most weeks, and various other subcontractors we engage with regularly.
Work Region: 1 hour radius of Worcester, Massachusetts.
Basic Qualifications
The right person for this job is early in their construction career, with a bit of experience and handy knowledge, not necessarily experienced in every element of interior remodels but with enough knowledge and mental flexibility to adapt to a very complicated role. Looking for someone motivated to build a career in construction.
You may be the right candidate if:
You are excited to expand your skills ranging from tiling, painting, carpentry, siding, roofing, flooring, and just a bit of plumbing and electrical (enough to change out faucets, toilets, and light fixtures and know when there might be an issue that needs resolution from a specialized contractor before closing up the work area)
You have a car and driver's license
You already have some experience doing construction/remodeling
You are willing to work hard as a member of my crew and help out with projects ranging from full apartment renovations to minor maintenance tasks for a few months before advancing to begin to manage others so that you know the ins and outs of our various jobs
You are willing to occasionally travel to further distant job sites and sleep on site (at campgrounds we usually are given a bed to sleep in and just need to bring a sleeping bag and change of clothes)
You are eager to work hard and earn overtime pay
You are motivated to work your way up and build a career
This job is NOT for you if:
You can’t work 40-60 hours a week in the hot weather doing manual labor such as
Lifting heavy objects like bags of concrete, bags of demolished plaster and wood scraps, 75lb drum sanders, 5 gallon paint buckets, stacks of flooring, moving appliances, climbing ladders
You are not willing to drive to job sites in a one-hour radius of Worcester
You don’t have a car
You are not willing to get your hands dirty and work with the crew to learn every element of the remodel process and become a skilled advisor to your crew members
You are not willing and able to be responsible for quality control, keeping the crew working efficiently without cutting corners, and catching mistakes before they become major
You are not willing to occasionally work with primarily Spanish speaking guys - if you don’t speak Spanish you will need to learn how to use Google translate
You smoke cigarettes. Hiring Manager refuses to work with smokers.
Compensation & Benefits:
Salary starts at $22-26 per hour during the 3-month trial/training period based on experience. Expected hours tend to be 40-50 per week so can earn 55-65k annually or more if eager to work more hours.
Future hourly wages will increase depending on results of the trial period.
