We serve over 128,000 meters as the third-largest Michigan-based electric utility and the state's largest member-owned power company. We prioritize enriching the lives of our community members. Our collaborative environment encourages creativity, empowers growth, and fosters a sense of purpose in everything we do.A Day in The Life of a DispatcherNo two days are the same as a dispatcher at GLE. You spend a fair amount of your day behind a computer screen and dispatching field crews through our radio system. You're not just behind-the-scenes, you are front-line too, working to process and resolve member calls about power outages and quality or emergent issues. The operations center is staffed 24 hours per day, 365 days per year, so this position requires shift work and flexibility. The likely schedule for this position will include 5 8-hour shifts followed by 2 8-hour shifts and 2 12-hour shifts weekly with rotating days to include every other weekend. Thunder in the distance? When storms hit any of our service areas, we are all hands on deck. Our team works together around the clock to get our members' power restored as quickly and as safely as possible. We depend on you being a team player who is going to show up when we need you most.Who You AreYou're the kind of person who thrives in a fast-paced and (dare we say) even stressful environment on occasion. You like variety in your day and feel accomplished after a hard day's work. You're familiar with computer programs and radio equipment and you find it easy to communicate with others without face-to-face contact. You work together with the dispatch team and find ways to tackle tough challenges. Your high school education and work experience is considered relatable from many different industries. We would love to see electric distribution dispatching experience, but shift work from any industry or customer service experience may be considered for this entry-level role. What's in It for You?You are valuable to us, and our benefits are here to show it.
