Minimum Qualifications (preferred): High school diploma or equivalent. 3 years welding work experience preferred. A certified welder is someone that possess or has the ability to obtain an up-to-date certificate issued by an accredited weld testing school and is able to complete quality welds in the industrial field. The certification verifies his competency and knowledge in the field. It demonstrates the ability to complete a weld that meets criteria and standards in industrial applications, as well as a familiarity with the tools, processes, and materials used in the welding process.Key Responsibilities: Selects the proper range, coarse setting, and filler wires for the appropriate metal and sizes being welded. Must be able to weld all products that require certified welding, such as pressure vessels and boilers, etc. while complying with a welding code or standard (i.e. American Welding Society (AWS) D1.1 structural welding code, ASME Section IX pressure vessels and boilers, etc.). Must set up and maintain welding equipment. Listens to welding machine, and observes its gauges, to ensure welding process meets specifications. Examines weld for bead size and other specifications. This position works closely with the Fabrication Foreman in analyzing welding failures.
