Contract Type Classified Hourly If other, please specify Recruitment Type Open Position Details General Statement Overall, this position will play an integral role in the Volunteer Fly Fishing Program which provides the opportunity for the public to be involved in fisheries research and management within Yellowstone National Park.Duties and Responsibilities

Act as a liaison between NPS fish biologists and the volunteer anglers.

Direct field activities so the volunteer anglers adhere to the standard operating procedures for fishing locations and biological data collection and ensure volunteer anglers safely follow visitor use guidelines (camping regulations, etc.).

Drive a government-owned vehicle and transport volunteers to and from study sites.

Required Qualifications – Experience, Education, Knowledge & Skills

Extensive experience fly fishing streams, rivers, and lakes in Yellowstone National Park, hiking off-trail and staying safe in areas with large, unpredictable wildlife (e.g. bears, bison).

Excellent communication and team leadership skills and passion for native fish conservation.

Experience planning and coordinating work among government agency staff and public volunteers.

Experience collaborating efforts with a non-profit fund-raising partner.

Certified in first aid and CPR .

Preferred Qualifications – Experience, Education, Knowledge & Skills

Experience safely leading large groups of volunteers in remote locations, capturing, and handling sensitive native fish species, and collecting and archiving scientific fisheries data.

Experience keeping records of daily activities.

Evidence of strong communication and writing skills. Experience writing for fish and fishing journals.

The Successful Candidate Will

Able to successfully implement the Yellowstone Volunteer Fly Fishing Program.

Communicate, plan, and coordinate with NPS partners and volunteers from across the U.S.

Able to lead large groups of volunteers’ long distances (2-3 miles) off trail in rugged country while carrying heavy packs (50 pounds).

Possess sound decision-making skills.

Have excellent written and oral communication skills.

Have a proven ability to take initiative, work independently and in a team environment.

Have effective interpersonal skills including the ability to collaborate successfully with program participants and staff.

Have superb organizational skills and attention to detail.

Have excellent record keeping skills.

Positively and professionally represent the Institute on Ecosystems and MSU .

Position Special Requirements/Additional Information

This position is funded for 11 months and continued employment is contingent upon funding availability.Must possess a valid driver’s license, an acceptable driving record, and meet all State of Montana requirements to operate State/University vehicles. (If successful candidate possesses a valid out-of-state driver’s license, must obtain a valid Montana driver’s license within 60 days of hire.)Because housing options are extremely limited within the park, the coordinator is required to make other arrangements for housing in Gardiner, MT or nearby.This job description should not be construed as an exhaustive statement of duties, responsibilities or requirements, but a general description of the job.
