Our Carman Helper candidates must have basic mechanical skills along withknowledge of machines and tools required to weld, cut, and gouge. We are looking for candidates who work well with a team, fluent in English with good communication skills, and are ready and willing to learn.4 day work week, Monday through Friday! Paid every Friday!Position DescriptionThe Railcar Carman Helper is responsible for assisting the Railcar Carman in removal, fabrication, fitment, and welding of railcar parts, components, and structures. This individual positions pieces to be welded into jigs, holding fixtures, guides and steps using measuring instruments and hand tools. The Railcar Carman Helper ensures all company guidelines are met and all safety rules are followed when performing duties. Working safely and maintaining a safe work area are top priorities for this position.Major Areas of ResponsibilityPerform tasks assigned by the Railcar Carman related to job work orders, including required repairs and modifications to railcarsComplete assigned repairs in an efficient manner and within the assigned timeframeClamp, hold, tack-weld, heat-bend, grind, or bolt component parts to obtain required configurations and positions for weldingNotify management of any materials and/or equipment required to ensure completion of assigned tasksInteract with crew members in a team environment, as well as with the supervisorComply with all safety and environmental health policies & practice proper housekeeping by ensuring a clean work areaEnsure TM Track Machines and customer quality assurance standards are metMinimum QualificationsAbility to read and write English at a high school levelDependable and consistent attendance/punctualityKnowledge of machines and tools required to weld, cut, and gougePerform/prioritize multiple tasks with attention to detailsAbility to follow oral and written instructionsBasic mechanical skills and the ability to read a tape measureWork RequirementsAbility to work in conditions that include loud noise, fumes, dirt, and heavy equipment in motionWork in hot and cold environment, in and out of the weather; work safely around heavy equipment and on top of and under railcars, as well as around railroad tracksAbility to transverse and work on uneven surfacesAbility to distinguish auditory signals with trainingAbility to change easily from one task to another (varying in nature) and deal with competing demandsAbility to work in tight spaces, under railcars, track equipment, locomotives, vehicles, etc.Ability to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) including, but not limited to: steel toe boots, eye protection, ear plus, gloves, hot work PPE, and fall protectionAbility to meet all functional requirements including, but not limited to: lifting (up to 60lbs), sitting, kneeling, standing, walking, bending, twisting, squatting, finger dexterity, and reaching above/below shouldersWe look forward to receiving your application!Omaha Track, Inc. is an equal opportunity employer and does not discriminate on the basis of any legally protected status or characteristic.
