Job Description:The National Association of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC) has an exciting opportunity for a Manager, Software Engineering. The Manager, Software Engineering position is focused on developing and managing routine operational plans, collaborates with subordinate supervisors and functional peer groups, provides guidance within established company policies, and monitors and manages costs.This position is based out of the NAIC’s Kansas City, MO office. This is a full-time hybrid-remote position, in a positive and flexible environment. Residency within 100 miles of the Kansas City, Missouri office is required, along with in-office work as scheduled. Key Responsibilities
Provide software engineering and related third-level production support, focusing on a significant product area or combination of products.
Develop and improve software according to product direction and related project needs, and ensure the software engineering process is effective, efficient, measurable, and aligns with other team’s processes.
Define, propose, and undertake projects to accomplish desired business outcomes, breaking down and drive work in accordance with the software engineering process.
Contribute to product direction, represent the Software Engineering team’s requirements, apply industry best practices, and leverage technology innovations.
Coordinate and partner with various functional teams across the product area in order to achieve shared goals.
Exercise judgment and interpret and analyze data and relevant factors to resolve problems and help define procedures and policies.
Management Responsibilities
Directly manage Software Engineers and ensure their success and productivity within their teams.
Oversee direct supervision to professional individual contributors and/or skilled and support individual contributors.
Act as guide to the unit and may become actively involved, as required, to meet schedules and resolve problems.
Attract, develop, and retain staff, provide career counseling and personal development for direct reports, and evaluate performance and team input.
Education, Certifications, Licenses, & ExperienceTypically has a Bachelor's degree with 5 - 8 years of relevant experience, including direct management experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.Systems & Technology Requirements
Microsoft 365, including Word, Excel, SharePoint, PowerPoint, Outlook; Jira; Slack.
Experience with Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC). Experience with Agile methodologies.
Experience with cloud technology (AWS is preferred).
