This is a great time to join Gannett Fleming TranSystems!ResponsibilitiesWhat you'll be challenged to do:Gannet Fleming TranSystems is seeking to hire a Senior Traffic Engineer to join our downtown Kansas City, MO office.We are looking for a candidate to join our team who has a minimum of 8 years professional experience, and is excited to work on a variety of complex projects with colleagues who enjoy all aspects of design and engineering analysis. Our Traffic Team generally works on projects involving design alternative analyses, engineering studies, small to large-scale traffic analyses, safety studies, travel demand modeling, and design of traffic signals, signing, pavement markings, and lighting. Our success has been built on teamwork with our colleagues in highway, bridge, stormwater, and utility design. We strive for innovation and ingenuity in our designs so we can provide the best outcome for all transportation users. Proven ability to work in a team environment and share of experience and expertise with teammates is ideal. A successful candidate should be able to plan, conduct and coordinate traffic engineering work, prepare reports, plans and specs for design projects, and monitor multiple project schedules and budgets. Join the Traffic Team, which is one of the Teams under the Government Design Division Leader, for the Midwest.
Prepares and directs traffic analysis and studies, including safety studies. Also completes design and plan preparation of traffic signal and interconnect drawings.
Plans and develops engineering projects concerned with unique or controversial problems. This involves exploration of subject area, definition of scope and selection of problems for investigation, and development of novel concepts and approaches.
Working independently, as a team member or lead, to execute specific phases or aspects of project such as technical studies, project design, preparation of specifications and technical plans. Must be able to coordinate responsibilities with the team and/or team leader.
Reviews project design for general compliance with engineering principles, company standards, and client contract requirements, and related specifications.
Coordinates activities concerned with technical developments, scheduling, and manpower, resolving engineering design problems.
Evaluates and approves design changes, specifications, and drawing releases.
Shows understanding of team management, develops project scope of work, estimating manpower needs, prepare CPM schedules, and tracks project progress.
Assures that the project is completed within the allocated period of time and within the budget that has been assigned.
Advocate for and mentor entry level engineers.
Maintains liaison with individuals and units within or outside his organization with responsibility for acting independently on technical matters pertaining to the field.
Plans and execut s project meeting.
Assures the project meets quality control and quality assurance guidelines.
Interprets changes in the contract and advises management on needed changes.
Maintain professional and technical, skills by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; participating in professional societies.
Assist and participate in preparation of business proposals.
Attend staffing meetings and work with Project Managers to balance workload of the team and staffing plans for projects.

QualificationsWhat you bring to our firm:Licensed Professional Engineer (PE) in State of Kansas or Missouri with a Bachelors of Science degree in Civil Engineering. Other state licensing may be acceptable but will need to obtain licensure in other Midwest states as needed.Experience working with KDOT or MoDOT and other local transportation agencies.
