Job Description:
looking for motivated and talented individuals for a Sr Applications Engineer position on the ITC Messaging Team. This team is responsible for the operation and maintenance of business-critical Linux systems across that support Positive Train Control (PTC) and Train Automation. As an Applications Engineer you will be responsible for application integration, providing support and critical thinking to solve technical challenges. You will also be responsible for investigating and coordinating the resolution of potential and actual service problems, including issues related to applications and infrastructure. This position requires a firm understanding of systems administration across Linux systems and public cloud platforms, the ability to self-start and drive projects to completion, and willingness to learn new technologies and advance your technical abilities. As a Sr Applications Engineer you will have the opportunity to work cross-functionally with other teams to build functionality that will increase overall efficiency and reliability.

Middleware systems
Interoperable Train Control Messaging (ITCM) is an advanced middleware messaging system customized for the railroad industry that supports seamless communication across multiple organizations in tens of thousands of remote endpoints. It allows the back office and railroads to exchange messages regardless of their physical location or type of connectivity.

The Interoperable Train Control Radio (ITCR) relays mission-critical data between locomotives, base stations, and wayside locations meeting railroad specifications and operating in a wide variety of conditions.

Interoperable Train Control Systems Management (ITCSM) is a scalable way to manage both operational, maintenance and security related tasks. This technology supports update and configuration of assets from the back office.

Minimum qualifications:

  • Experience with messaging (RabbitMQ, JMS, IBM Integration Bus (IIB), AMPQ, Kafka, MQ, or Active MQ)
  • Ability to create, support, administer messaging broker operations, transports, message routing
  • Experience with administration of Red Hat Enterprise Linux systems in enterprise environments
  • Understanding of deploying applications and managing enterprise solutions
  • Strong personal drive and motivation to learn new technologies
  • Analytical skills including process, design, data relationship and gap analysis
  • Ability to follow documentation and create internal documentation or technical diagrams if necessary
  • Interpersonal skills to build working relationships as a member of a team
  • Demonstrated effective analytical and problem solving skills
  • Solid written and verbal communication skills

Bonus qualifications :
  • Experience with designing, creating & consuming REST APIs and documentation
  • Understanding of API programming and self-service practices
  • Experience with QPID and AMQP
  • Experience in ELK - Elasticsearch, Logstash and Kibana ELK cluster management, index creation and optimization along with the tuning of ingest patterns
  • Container Platform knowledge (Openshift, Kubernetes)
  • Experience with creating vendor cases and working with vendors to resolve software or hardware issues
  • Railroad Industry Experience
  • Positive Train Control (PTC) prior experience
  • Trace and troubleshoot communication and data issues in RHEL
  • Previous experience with IPtables, SELinux and scripting, multi VLAN
  • Automating tasks using scripting and automation tools
