Position TitleArchiving and Cataloging AssistantJob ResponsibilitiesThis position performs tasks related to archival processing and resource description in Special Collections and University Archives and provides support for cataloging and catalog maintenance activities within the Technical Services department. This position reports to the Head of Special Collections and University Archives.This is a reduced schedule (32 hours per week), benefits-eligible position. Occasional work hours outside of normal schedule required.RESPONSIBILITIES
Assist with management of archival materials for the University Archives and Special Collections, including creation and updating of finding aids, and sorting and processing of archival collections.
Assist with Reading Room desk coverage in Special Collections.
Perform catalog maintenance tasks including creating/updating copy holdings, item, and volume holdings records and copy cataloging under the direction of Technical Services staff.
Perform other duties as assigned.

High school diploma or
GEDequivalent required.
Ability to work systematically and with accuracy.
Aptitude for prooing text.
Demonstrated oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
Dexterity to handle fragile items.
Proficiency with computers and standard office productivity software.
Physical ability to move around in small, enclosed work areas accessible only by narrow stairways and to lift, manipulate and carry heavy books, boxes, and artifacts.
Preferred Qualifications
Some college coursework preferred.
Previous experience in a library, museum, or archives environment.
Archival collections processing and familiarity with archival terminology.
Familiarity with library-related software such as a library management system or ArchivesSpace.
Knowledge of
OCLC,
MARCformats, LC classification, and
LCSH.
Supervisory experience.
